Desert Island selection.  Other performances are also fine but I know this one best.

Steven Isserliss' Bach Sonatas are also excellent, winning Gramophone Editor's Choice Best Instrumental Recording. I have it and listen to it a lot.

This Prokofiev and Rachmaninoff Cello Sonatas CD is awesome.

Janos Starker - Bach: Six Suites for Solo Cello [Mercury Living Presence SACD]

While not purely a solo recording, I'm partial to Ofra Harnoy's Trilogy CD [RCA]

Rufus Capadocia is my favorite Cello recording. Most highly recommended!

If you’re asking about pieces for unaccompanied cello, the field is slim.  The only pieces I can think of are from Bach, Kodaly, Hindemith, Crumb, Wellsz and Ysaye.  Are you also asking about sonata’s and concerto’s?  if so, there a lot more to choose from.

Not cello, but if you like solo cello I think you will also really like Dave Holland's solo bass album Emerald Tears.
