Sonys Flagship Speaker

According to Absolute Sound,Sony has released a braced, maplewood speaker system for 27K,called the AR-1.Could Acoustic Research who started the acoustic suspension era in the early 50's sue for using the same name as the AR-1?I looked and their still in business.Absolute Sound also reported that they grow their own maples for this speaker. It takes about 60 years for a maple to be big enough to be sawed into the widths they showed in the picture.I wonder if they were working on this speaker before launching the little transistor radios that came to the U.S. shores before we were listening to the Beach Boys...I think not....Mark Korda

Oh look, Scan-Speak drivers in a box!  Yes, that's certainly worth $27,000.

Better than the next step down I'm sure.

Do they come with a remote control too?

SS-AR1

Maybe Chevrolet could sue them for the "SS", Acoustic Research for the letters "AR" and Charlie Sheen for the number "1".

Someone on TAS forum said it is already 3-4 years old, only new to the US.

Allen Taffel (from TAS) likes it:

This should probably be moved to the "Enclosures" circle, it's definitely not a review.

No smart remarks about Sony speakers.

Ray Kimber owns these SS-AR1 speakers and they are outstanding - I've emailed him.

I own the Sony SS M9ED speakers and they are reference level.  This was Sony's previous statement product.
Would love to hear the SS-AR1s.
