Has anyone done the Rega Motor upgrade? If so what was gained from the upgrade? One other question is will the upgrade have any impact on the hum that you get from the Grado Cartridges when using the Rega turntable? I have an older Rega Planer 3.

No experience with the motor upgrade. If the upgrade doesn't include shielding the motor, it will not effect the amount of EMF emitted by the motor.  A soft iron plate sitting above the motor and at least 3X the diameter of the motor, and a soft iron belt wrapped around the motor body should soak up enough EMF to keep a grado cart from picking up "audible" hum.

Yes, I have done a few. I can honestly tell you its the single most noticeable upgrade you can do on this TT. I highly suggest this, and from there replace the sub-platter. The best place to purchase these upgrades are off of Ebay. Here is a list of the upgrades I would highly suggest. Motor, sub-platter, ruby or ceramic bearing, and some new feet for the plinth. The downside being that you will never get your money back out of this deck after you have spent the $500 in upgrades, but sonically you will be in "bliss". Oh yeah, make sure you have a fresh belt. Currently I have a heavily modded Thorens TD125 a Denon DP-80  and a Denon DP 6700 and the Rega holds its own against theses players.

Yes, I have done some mods. Sub platter, counterweight and feet, along with rewiring the tone arm. I am very impressed what can be gotten out of the table. Unfortunately, with the improvements the hum is more obvious. Now when you replied you have done a few. Have you done them with Grado carts?
