Which SSD to buy?

This is going into a Dell e6400 laptop.

ntel X25-M SSDSA2MH120G2K5 2.5" 120GB SATA II

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=20-167-035&nm_mc=EMCPB-032011&cm_mmc=EMCPB-032011-_-PB030811-_-Item-_-20-167-035

or

Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1 2.5" 128GB SATA III

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148348&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL030811&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL030811-_-EMC-030811-Index-_-SSD-_-20148348-L0B

Cost is basically even for the same size.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I've heard good things about the Intel but I would still go with the OCZ Vertex Gen 2.  They haven't let me down yet!

I've also had good luck with OCZ. Had a 64GB first-gen model and just upgraded to a 200 GB second-gen model. Ran the 64GB version in a Dell Precision M65 and a 2009 MacBook Pro; the 200 GB has only been in the Mac.

I think you might be paying a tad more for the Crucial because it was the first that supported SATA III and gets better performance on those machines. But if you don't have SATA III, you might be paying for performance you can't access.

Everybody seems to love the Intels even though the write performance isn't up with the Sandforce 1200-based drives. Read performance is apparently the thing.

Good luck.

I have the Intel you mentioned, but the 80GB version, also this one
SSD 90G|CORSAIR CSSD-F90GB2-BRKT    $189.99

I use these for the OS drive (C:) on a couple of servers...

Looks like you want more space since you will only have the one drive. I would look at what brand you would get if you got it from Dell, maybe get that brand if you really want to play it safe, but probably most brands are going to be fine.

Really just about any decent SSD will be amazing compared to a SATA II laptop drive (5400RPM or 7200RRPM). You will read at 150MB/s to 300MB/s and write 70MB/s up to 230MB/s for the larger newer, more expensive SSDs.

The next crop of SSDs (Sand Force 2000+ and other technologies) that we will see will be more like 500MB/s for both read and write, and will make no sense for a SATA II port which maxes out at 300MB/s. So unless your PC can use a SATA III port, get the best bang for the buck now.

That's it!

Just got it for $174 shipped after a $30 mail in rebate.

Given that I think that my laptop doesn't have a SATA III connection, I went with this over the Crucial.

Well after less than two weeks of use, my drive died this morning (it is totally unreadable in my laptop and a few others it was tried in).  I will get a replacement drive from Newegg within 48 hours and I hope that it doesn't have any issues.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that. Glad to hear you have a replacement on the way. Any idea what the cause might have been?

Nope.

Everything was fine till this morning when it could no longer read the disk.  Our IT department tried the disk in multiple machines and had the same negative result in all of them.
