SOLD!
Thor TPA-60 MK II (Crescendo) monoblock power amps

These are Mark II amps - not an upgraded MK II. Price is for the pair. They are a factory MK II edition with the MK II spun-metal chassis whose round shape yields a no-flex rigidity that helps cancel external vibrations. Rated 9 for age only - I can't find a mark on them and that includes the chrome!
(s/n 1043 and 1044 - the 1000 seies serial # indicates the Mk II version)

Designed with no cost spared and retailed at $17,000. Among the very finest amps. Their gorgeous, almost SET-like harmonic richness, that just makes it hard to stop listening. Dynamics, soundstage, imaging are extraordinary.

Only their performance transcends its appearance. They are definitely eye candy. Photos cannot capture the elegance of their chrome nor how visually stunning they are with their tubes glowing and the etched glass bottom blue light. The highly polished chrome acts like a mirror multiplying the effect.

Thor Audio is still in business at highendaudiodotcom. They even offer upgrades to these already stellar performers.

I will also include a two full sets of matched quads of the SED winged-C EL-34 tubes from Upscale Audio. That's $300 in tubes!
The existing tubes have PLENTY of life left as these amps were very lightly used.

These are extra special because I had custom glass plates made to add to the enjoyment of listening to these amps. You can see I had a pair of "curtains with scroll-work design" plates made and I also had a "Picasso" plate and a "music trio with dancers" plate made as well - six glass plates in all including the pair of "Thor" plates.

Reason for sale: I need to simplify my setup and put everything into one rack. I used these to biamp my speakers so they performed very light duty.

PRICE: $4990/pr  (These were originally $17,000 so I won't take low-ball offers very kindly...)

IMPORTANT:
TERMS:
YOU must multiply the shipping weight (65 lbs) by 2 to get the actual shipping cost. Ships from 06070

The shipment will actually be in 3 boxes - one each for the amps and another one for the extra tubes and glass plates.

SHIPPING TO THE CONTINENTAL US ONLY.

USPS money order, certifed BANK check (after it clears) or Paypal. For Paypal, if you choose anything other than Personal cash gift, you will have to add the 3% fees.

They sound even better than they look. I have the TPA-30's and sound pretty nice. Good luck selling these babies. They look in perfect shape.

Thanks for the positive comments.
It really does sound better than it looks.  I wish circumstances were different so I could keep it... :(

Lahdy, lahdy.  If those were any prettier they'd hurt my eyes.

If I could afford 'em, I'd HIGHball you with an offer!  I'd guess the system you're keeping is special.

Best of luck with your sale.

Well, they are sold - just waiting for the check to clear.

Mudslide,
Actually my system is less special now. It just became too much of a project with extra cables, amp stands, power cords, attenuators etc. Stuff was all over the place and I was feeling like I was initiating the launch sequence of a Saturn rocket just turning on/off everything.

But the sound!!!
Bass slam of transistors and silkiness of tubes with all of their positives (soundstage, musicality etc etc) and none of the negatives (no tubbiness, no harshness, etc).

One thing I did learn is that, for all the talk about active bi/tri amping being the way to go, it was the biggest pain and was NOT the way to go for me. Passive biamping was easier, cheaper, truer to the sound the speaker mfr intended and overall better sounding.

Stop, blownrx7...you're killing me here.  I'd LOVE to have a shuttle launch process to fire up some sounds.  Scotch, cigars, good friends, good tunes, flip...flip...flip, check, lights out, T minus one....launch MUSIC!   :D

I'd guess the only thing I have over you is that I never blew up my RX7!

Congrats on the sale.
