How many of you own *recording* equipment?
« on: 7 Mar 2011, 09:28 pm »
Just curious. How many of us would still have some decent recording equipment around. Like reel tape, dedicated CD recorder, digital recorder?

Please answer "yes" only if you have good quality, dedicated stereo (or multitrack) equipment. Phone answering machines, dictation devices, photo cameras and other such things are excluded.

Presonus Firepod and a pair of Earthworks mics. The Firepod has eight excellent class A mid preamps and firewire computer interface.

I have an old NAD 6155 cassette deck which worked pretty well back in the day.  I do not currently have it hooked up.

I still have a Pioneer Elite CD recorder and a Philips DVD Recorder.  I took the CD Recorder out of the basement system not that long ago after I reshuffled equipment.  Did not see tons of use in the last couple of years.  I took the DVR recorder out of the main system probably many months back after getting some new stuff.  Did not get used much (like once a year to take a mini-DV vacation tape and make a DVD).

I only tinker once in awhile, my biggest regret as far as music goes was that I didn't learn piano/keyboard so I could really create cool stuff with all the sounds available today on any computer. I scored a short film for some folks up here with a MAC they had and Garage Band--it was fun, not to, to difficult to understand and sounded pretty good considering. But this is what I have to play with and my youngest son likes to make songs with the "crazy sounds"

Equipment and Software
 Ableton LIVE 6.2
 REASON 3.0
 Fruity Loops
 Korg Nano Key USB Keyboard
 Midiman Oxygen 8 USB Keyboard
 Sony VAIO Laptop
 Grado Headphones
 Apple ipod Touch
 Skittles
Anything within range that might possibly make a sound I'd like when struck with Zildjian Drum Sticks
 JBL Speakers (of course)

I bought this NAKAMICHI 1000 when I was teenager

Then in 1985 I was one of the lucky owners that had the gold limited one in my hand. This one was the production for only one year.In order to buy this I sold my QUICKSILVER monos,LUXMAN L100,2 NICON cameras and my bicycle and cash from my acount. I bought it from a guy who had a health problem and did not care for it any more.

Then I bought the original one again 5 years ago just to have it and the guy gave me his TDK SAX tapes with the recorder and I sold it to a close friend last year with all the tapes. So I have to say no,I do not have one. :thumb:

I used to have a Nakamichi 680.  Loved that deck.  Actually, I still also have a cassette deck.  I think it is on Onkyo.  I probably used it about once every 4 years (I'm due).  I usually take out a tape or two I did with dbx from a Mofi album.

Field recording set up... When I was using this set up - the recordings this rig made were very clean dynamic and detailed sound. best I had heard, when set-up was optimized properly.

Neumann SKM-140's(cardioid) and 50's(hyper cards) w/ corresponding active cable kit for pairing them down to the caps only, if necessary.
Lunatec V2 portable mic preamp
Lunatec V3 portable mic preamp and AD 24/96 converter
Benchmark AD2K+ 24/96 AD converter
Tascam DAP-1 (DAT) recorder
Toshiba laptop - custom built for hi bit field recording (broken)

as far as a soundcard can be considered as *recording* equipment...i have a ESI Juli@ soundcard.

some specs:
- S/PDIF in/out 192/24 (coax)
- optical out 96/24
- two mono pairs of balanced/unbalanced analog in/out

using it to do 96/24 recordings (vinyl) with very good results. stereo playback is great!
