USING MPAD and MPOD on the IPAD and iTouch

MEMO: BDP-1 INTERFACE
SUBJECT: MPad

March, 2011

Hi Folks,

There is a great new interface for the Bryston BDP-1 Digital Player available.

On your iPad go to the APP Store and search for ‘MPaD’.  Download the app to the iPad desktop – costs $2.99.  MPaD Icon (green) will appear on your desktop.

Set-up:

1. Open the MPaD icon

2. Touch the gear shaped icon at the top of the page in the middle

3. Name - BDP-1

4. Server – Bryston-bdp-1.local

5. Port - 6600

It works great with the BDP-1

ENJOY!

MPaD program is brilliant. The is the client interface that was needed all along. I did have a few issues with initial setup and had to do repeated refreshes of the local database to finally get the program up and running. So if your entire library does not lad, keep hitting refresh local data base in the settings window until all loads. If you own the BDP-1 and you don't have an iPad, now is the reason to buy one!

Hello.

I used mapad all day and I must say it has solved the main problem was the bdp1, is really very nice.
Would only solve the problem of cover for the collections that are not on the database amazon.
In use, turn off every time I search by artist, but they are teething problems.
When the next release of firmware will solve the problem of waiting times our bdp1 will be perfect.
Could you explain something?
What will change when the bdp1 will work with NTFS hard drives?
I originally had hd NTFS and read them, what will serve the possibility of writing?
Thanks and sorry again for my bad English

I've downloaded MPad today and it looks great but I've found an possible issue.
I have my own non-commercial music on a USB memory stick connected to the BDP-1
MPaD sees the music but dosn't display the album art
I have used Mp3tag to insert an image into the matadata of the FLAC files and there is a Folder.jpg in the directory where the music is but no cover image in MPad. What I am I doing wrong?
I do see cover art for commercial music on the memory stick though.

Thanks,
Terry

This is the problem with MPD server and client software. Album covers are downloaded from Amazon with MPaD. There are a number of esoteric albums I own without covers showing although they were tagged in when ripped in Media Monkey to flac files. I hope this will change down the road. There is quite a bit of ongoing development with MPD and I believe some of this is to support covers. Once the BDP-1 will read NTFS formatted drives, this situation might also improve (?). I hope this information is accurate, but it what I seem to understand from my reading on the MPD website. Got to love public domain software and I have faith something will come about sooner than later.

I dropped a line on MPaD's web site, maybe he'll come up with something, hopefully

Here is an explanation of the cover art issue:

If you use dbpoweramp to rip your CD's it will save the album art as a Folder.jpg file whiich works well in MPod and MPad.

Also in 'Settings' in the webbrowser section of MPoD and MPaD use  bryston-bdp-1.local/music which will help find art on the network.

I'm a little slow this morning. Are you suggesting adding "Bryston-BDP-1.local/music" to the URL field in the Local Cover Art section in Edit Connection or somewhere else?
Thanks,
Jim

Hi audioblazer,

Not sure - do you get cover art with Bryston MAX and MINI?  Did you refreash the cache in MPAD and MPOD?

Thanks James, I followed your advice and now you see all the covers.
MAPD is fantastic.
For me it is much better than "remote" from Apple.
Only thing missing is the time of the songs.
Now one of the weaknesses of bdp1 is becoming a strength.

Great :thumb: - the timing of the song playing shows up in the bottom left hand corner of MPAD as a status bar.

Hi pimandro

That's the terrific thing about Linux being open source. You're not tied to any specific system. :thumb:

I cannot seem to get the URL link for art work to function. I must be brain dead. When I try to load the local cache, the program starts loading and then crashes. My hard drive is labeled Bryston BDP-1 and the music files are in the directory Audio. What am I missing?

Hi Ned,

I have notice that it sometimes takes a few tries to get MPAD to load the cache.
Also try disengaging the APP and reloading it on the MPAD.

I got it working flawlessly as you described. However, there seems to be a problem with mPoD on the iPad 2. Yes I wasted time to get an iPad 2. Everything works on the original iPad. Trying to load mPoD cache on the iPad 2 fails consistently. Nothing will load. Something is wrong?
Anyone else having probLems with the iPad 2?
