Bryston SP1.7 Problem -- Help Please
« on: 3 Mar 2011, 01:45 am »
My SP 1.7 will not startup -- this happened all of a sudden -- it was working until a few days ago.  I tried starting it up recently and all the lights come on, but it does not boot.  The conditions are identical to this post:

http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=9268.0

I have checked the fuses, but they are fine.

Is there anything else I can check?.....

I am in Japan, and could send it to the distributor here, (purchased in Japan)
I would be grateful for any advice.

This seems to be happening often on the SP1.7, I wonder what the fault is?

Thanks!

Shaz

Hi Shaz,

It sounds like a power supply failure.

Hi James,

Thanks for your reply.
Oh, that's a pity. I'll have to send it in to the distributor here in Japan,
and see what they say.  I usually leave my unit on Stand-by all the time...
is this not good?

I've been using this for a while now, and all the digital side is very good..but the analog pass
through is awesome, and great for 2CH.

If I don't have any luck with the distributor, is there any chance of buying the PS directly,
and changing myself.  I am an EE by trade, and should be OK.

Thanks!

Shaz

Hi Shaz,

Contact Mike Pickett at Bryston and see what he advises - what is the serial number and I assume it's a 100 volt version.

Hi James!

Thank u for your reply, I've contacted Mike and hopefully we'll get this back up and running.
Many thanks for your help.

A couple of things if you don't mind me asking.  I need to take a common ground from the chassis of SP1.7 (need for subwoofer), is there a place somewhere on the chassis, where I can do this.  I don't see any GROUND symbol on the chassis itself.  I have tried taking it direct from the case, but still get a hum......

I have a couple of Bryston 9BST, and a 5BST too.....on one of the 9BSTs I have one channel (i.e. one amplifier) that won't be used -- i.e. no speaker connected, so my question is it OK to run this without a load?

Thanks,

Shaz

Hi Shaz,

I can answer question 2 - email Mike on question 1 please.

No problem not running a channel while powered up.
