Hi Guys,
I just put my Shuguang Black Treasure S300 Mk integrated up on the 'Gon.  It is in great condition, less than 200 hours, and is a great, inexpensive way to get the SET Sound.  The tubes alone are worth about half of what I am asking for the entire amp.....and it even comes with a solid metal remote with an on and off switch.

I paired it with my ZU Omen Defs and took it to a friends house with his Superfly's and it was great with both.....but now I have upgraded to a Pass XA 30.5 and a Modwright Pre, and for many thousands more, I have outdone this little guy.....

I have it on Audiogon for $1400 with split shipping, but will take 1350 and free shipping if anyone on AC wants it as long as you send the PP fees as a personal gift ( no fees).
   Pics are here:

( Sorry they are upside down...blame it on the new laptop!).

Good snag, Peter.

I have the Shuguang S845 MK monos which are just above this in the line and they're a fantastic value for the dollar.  Shuguang's treasure amp line is real nice stuff!

Hey Guys,
I wanted to ask a favor of you all....I sold this to Peter and shipped the amp out and he has it in his hands.....but the day he received it, he received some very bad news (I will let him share if he so desires) and must sell the amp.  He was a pleasure to deal with and when I talked to him on the phone he was very excited, but now is having a rough go of it and needs to sell the amp.  I told him I would come here and ask if anyone wants to buy it and I will have Peter come here and give an update also.  I packed it extremely well, and after talking with Peter, I realized that the amp has less than 200 hours and probably closer to 100 on it.  So shoot me or Peter a PM if you want it!  Several of you sent me a PM when the ad went up, if you are still interested then let Peter know ( contact info and phone number above).
Thanks,
Morgan

This sure looks good, but can someone please explain to me how such low watt output compares to the 150/watt per channel ouotput I have in my solid state amp?

MWG,

Watts versus dB of gain (loudness) is a  logarithmic relationship.  So to double the loudness the wattage has to increase ten fold.  The 8 wpc Shuguang S300MK develops 8 dB of gain (happen stance of the numbers) versus your 150 wpc amp that develops 20 dB of gain.

So your amp would play slightly more than twice as loud.  For 88 dB/w/m speakers you might expect to reach 96 dB (88+8) using the Shuguang in your average sized room and 108 dB (88+20) using your amp (add a 2nd channel but subtract the effect of greater distances/room size typically involved).  These are both louder than most folks listen normally, but less than live peaks (conventionall stated as 105 dB for classical and jazz, 110 dB for rock).

That's what the numbers say, but reality is a bit different.  To provide good dynamics and resolution an amp must provide a commanding grip on the speakers.  And to avoid damage to your speakers the amp should have sufficient headroom (excess capacity) to not get pushed into distortion.  Note that tube amps typically clip (handle overloads) more "gracefully" than solid state for a variety of reasons and so speakers are often rated to be paired with a fairly wide range of amplifier wattage to take this, musical genres, individual tastes, and room size into account.

Thanks, JLM. I am absolutely horrible at calculating anything having to do with numbers, so I sort of understand some of what you said. Having adequate headroom for high db transients is important to me, as is the power to operate inefficient speakers safely and well. To do this, I would then need to have a tube amp with how much power? Do thay make hybrid integrated amps with 75 to 150 watts/channel into 8 ohms?

I'm so ignorant of this stuff.

Thanks very much.

The power (current delivery) difference is one aspect, which is different but related to the voltage gain (loudness.) Add in the SS vs tube distinction along with your speaker type and you have a fairly complex question there, Wine Guy!

Based on your question which mentions inefficient speakers and high volume headroom, I think the integrated SET amp would not be ideal for you. But you wouldn't be the first person to try it...

There are tons of tube and transistor integrated amps in the 100W range, with a wide range of prices and features. But the tube vs transitor question remains and requires more info from you.

If you start a new thread in the Starting Block Circle you will be able to learn more than you ever wanted to know. Then we can leave these boys to finding the right home for that tube amp.

Your name reminds me of a summer job I had at a W Roxbury, MA wine distributor many years ago.

Hi Everyone,
I am the guy that just purchased this nice amp from Morganc.
Unfortunately due  to a financial situation (just found out that night of my job layoff)
I am forced to sell this amp. It arrived in my hands with no problems Morganc did a terrific job of packaging this amp. Had a chance to listen to it for about a few hours and tears came down my face. Knowing I cannot keep this amp is very hard.  The midrange with the included Shuguang Black Treasures is something to behold.
This amp has about 150 hrs on it and it comes with  the manual, transferable warranty, original box, etc.

You can get all of the specifics here:
http://grantfidelity.com/site/shuguang_treasure_classic_S300MK

$1350.00 I will split shipping  Paypal, MO
If you are local to So. Cal free shipping and I will pick up paypal fees

Thanks for looking,

Peter

At your asking price, I'd throw some pictures up and see if it sells here first.  $1350 is a steal for the performance it packs.  The black treasure tubes alone are probably worth almost a grand.

Here are photos!:

And just one more Compliment for this amp:  I now have 2 amps that retail for over $9,000 and another at $6,000 sitting in my apt ( I have gone loco indeed), and this amp is better with my Zu's than one of them and about 80-90% of the other two.  If you want to try Set without much to lose, then jump on these, help Peter out, and get yourself a good deal on an amp with maybe 200 hours ( probably a lot less).

Wow, no takers for my Shuguang SET amp.. This amp retails brand new from Grant Fidelity for $2100... Here is a change to pick up one that has no more than 150 hrs on the unit and the great sounding BLACK TREASURE tubes to boot.

There are already pictures posted for my amp on this thread.

Due to  unexpected financial difficulities  I MUST SELL this amp! My loss your gain

will lower the price to  a serious buyer..

Thanks,
Peter
