FM-1 Re-build
« on: 27 Feb 2011, 10:32 pm »
Just received a Dynatuner FM-1 I bought off of Ebay,This unit is without the multiplex board,it has all the parts, plugged it in,noticed all the tubes light up except the EM84 tube,so I unplugged it,and opened the underside up,and WHAT A MESS!! pools of solder everywhere!!!,I knew I was in for the long haul here,PC-8 looks pretty good,PC-7!! it's a wonder this thing didn't blow up. After the first de-soldering,I knew this board was toast. I will post pics of progress, the discriminator IF  is a domed top,the rest are flat, I took my hex wrench and turned one of the cores and it turned just fine,so maybe the rest will be ok. I have it all disassembled,I will post progress.

What a mess.  I would go over the contacts with some desoldering braid or wick.  That should remove the remainder of the old solder.  Typically it is not a good idea to mix old solder with new.  Then wipe the bottom of the board with some naphtha or rubbing alcohol.
Good Luck.
