HUM ON A MMF7.1
« on: 25 Feb 2011, 04:44 pm »
I'm wondering if anyone has had any hum issues on their Music Hall turntables.
I'm curious about Van Alstine's Longhorns, and was told they should match well, but to be sure of this potential problem,
as the cartridge is not shielded.
I'd also be open to suggestions for other cartridges, since I'm new to matching.
The TT came with a Pro-ject 9c carbon arm,and an Eroica H which was fine till it died prematurely. Can't afford $500 to rebuild.
I replaced it with a Benz Micro Silver, which I thought to be bright.
I've tried to digest as much matching info as possible , but it's really beyond me.Thanks for any help.

The MMF7.1 appears to have a nicely shielded motor housing and is a distance away from the tonearm in the playing position. I am trying to compile a list of compatible/non-compatible tables but do not have any info on the MMF7.1.

We do have a 30 day money back guarantee, should the cartridge have issues with your turntable. I'd love to build an AVA Grado1 Longhorn for you. If you have a hum issue, we would refund your purchase price.

I breifly had a Green on an mmf-7. It wasn't there long, but I had no hum issues.

Big difference between a Gold-1 and a Green.

Actually, the only difference is the stylus, cantilever, and possibly the purity of the copper in the coils.

There is no difference that would affect its tendency to hum (motor, magnet, and shielding).

That is correct.  My response was more to the difference in sound quality between the Gold-1 and Green.
That was in reference to the OP not keeping the Green in his system very long.
