King Crimson - CD/DVD-A Releases
« on: 23 Feb 2011, 02:43 pm »
I've bought all the CD/DVD-A releases to date and love them all.

But still miss my two faves - Starless & Bible Black and Larks' Tongues In Aspic, searching I find no reference to when or if these two are being worked on.  Does anyone have any insight on the intent to release these two classics?

Phil,
Some of the folks working on these masterings/mixes post regularly on the quad forum.  Here is the latest.  Neil Wilkes is a good KC source (search on his posts).

By the way, I am waiting on my faves, the more modern trilogy from the Belew/Levin period (Discipline/Beat/Three Of A Perfect Pair).  LTIA is looking to be Spring release.

Thanks Ted,

Looks like I could be pleasantly surprised with the two releases :thumb:

I'm still stuck in the Brit only KC era, then they got contaminated by you colonial guys and took a different path........ :D

yeah, that's the third of the trilogy, and some of it is weak, but overall I love the lineup...who wouldn't:
Bill Bruford (my all time fave rock drummer)
Tony Levin (my all time fave prog bass player)
Adrian Belew (a pioneer of alt prog, a tremendous electric guitarist and a great vocalist in his own right)
Robert Fripp (the man, the foundation, the seated wizard)

Saw their "Three Of A" Tour back in 84 or so, sat 2nd row. Amazing!!!  This DVD has that tour (as well as another tour on it).  The video is average but the performance is very good (used for $7 !).

Ronm1,
That would be a great comparison.  The k2HD with the 24/96 stereo layer.  Let us know (and player, system, etc).

:)  It was the reason for my comment.  You have several players in your systems descriptions, including Pio, Oppo and toshiba...as an example.  No big deal, we'll figure it out.

Got ya...
9200 when I want better dvda playback IMO
Pio for SACD, not bad for Hires most of the time
Oppo for movies only, not fond of its audio for music
DDSpro is redbook

when I start to listen I'll be specific

KC fans might be interested in Bruford's biography, out a couple years ago.  Lots of interesting and amusing stories about his early days in Yes and KC, as well as his other projects.

UPDATE:  Just a heads up to all you KC fans.  Discipline (one of my all-time faves) is being released ias a 5.1 DVD-A/cd set on October 25th (US release date).  I had preordered it via Amazon and my delivered price to Ohio was $23.

HOWEVER........the UK released the set already, 3 weeks earlier than the US date...and Amazon.uk will deliver it to me for an all-in-price of $21.09!!   :thumb: :thumb:  Ordered it yesterday and cancelled my US order.

i will report back on it.  Very psyched to get it early!!

Mark, My point was that it will not be released in the US until 3 weeks from now, and getting it immediately from Uk was not painful.  The addtl $3 is way better than waiting.

I've just ordered one of my faves - S&BB, from Amazon UK.

I regularly order from Amazon UK and the service is very fast, typically no more than 5 business days.  In addition the prices are quoted with VAT, which is removed at checkout if you have a US address, and this pays the P&P.  Typically it's cheaper to buy discs that are imports on the US Amazon site directly from the UK site.

I'm just waiting for Larks Tongues.......
