import of my CD into the hard drive?  I'm having issues with severe vibration and noise when I import CDs and was wondering if the problem can affect copying.  Thanks.

Hopefully somebody will have a better answer than this.
I don't have a Mac so I am not sure about this.

Unix boxes have a command line tool called "diff" that will compare two files.
diff fileA fileB

The trick will be specifying the file on the audio CD.
I don't know how to do this for a Mac.

You might have to rip it twice and then compare the two results.

RIP: http://sbooth.org/Rip/
XLD: http://tmkk.pv.land.to/xld/index_e.html

In addition to all the error-correction that cdparanoia (and other libraries offer), both of these will generate a checksum to compare on an online database.

I've used RIP and felt it did a great job even though it's still considered 'beta' by the author.

(updated URL for XLD)

Mines noisy and vibrates and is 5 years old. Never let me down. CD drives always parity check so I wouldn't worry. If the rip takes a long time, then the drive is retrying, and then if it says it failed, it failed. If it says complete with no errors, then you are good to go.
