  • Dutch and Dutch 8C's…yes they are that good!
I just bought a Larger sub and I am wondering what crossover people are using?

I would like to keep the price below $400 (new or used).

Thanks,

George

George,

What amp are you using to power it?  Found one yet?  I would think the pro audio market would be the way to go with xo and amp, maybe combined together.   Although I can't offer any direct rec's, you might look at behringer.

Josh,

I have an Adcom GFA 555 MK II that I can use (currently runs rear channels in 7.1 setup).

I have also heard good things about the Parts Express plate amp (http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=300-808).

This would give me amp, crossover, and limited EQ in one package.

It does have a few negatives though:

1.  Not real attractive and it is really designed to go "inside" a cabinet.
2.  The cable that would connect to the drivers is cheap and ends in clip on connectors.

Parts Express has it on sale and does offer a 45 day return policy so I might try it.

Doug,

i have one in my system, w/a pair of larger vmps'.  completely transparent, & amazingly flexible - i have been able to get a seamless blend w/a multitude of different monitors.

i have never tried the bryston 10b, but several folks who have compared it w/the marchand say the marchand is more transparent...

i'm looking for sub crossovers for my large also-
tried the ones from vmps and didnt think they were built well-poor wound inductor-

i have some rca inline low pass filters i just recieved from parts express, havent tried them yet.

hsu has a sub crossover -http://www.hsustore.com/highendcrossover.html
a little expensive-
berhinger has a 2 way electronic crossover w/ sub out at parts express-it also looks like a idea-

outlaw has a bass managment unit also-

AudioControl makes a couple pretty nice ones, too.  Either the PCAIII or the Richter Scale would work well in your application.  Both are X-overs but they also contain an inverter that you can use to bridge a stereo amp into a big mono one (sorta like the AVA device).

I used to use a PCAIII; it was pretty flexible & transparent.  New they cost about $300-350.  You could get an Outlwaw Audio ICBM for $300, too.  Although I've never used that one I've heard positive thing about it.

I'd also recommend the Marchand units....
I was one of those people who compared it favourably head-to-head against the Bryston.

I love mine, but alas I need to sell it. This should be in the Trading Circle but if anyone is interested PM me.

I'm selling the XM44. One step above the XM9. With 3 sets of low frequency modules.

Drop me a line and I'll give all the details.

Thanks
