SOLD via audiogon.

I am the original owner of this fantastic preamplifier which was the longest standing piece in my rig since I embarked in this hobby.  I purchased it from Bill O'Connel at Morningstar audio and sprung for the power supply upgrades by Tom Tutay which, apart from offering a significant sonic upgrade, allow a wide variety of non 12au7 tubes to be used in the middle position.

The preamplifier is in as new condition (will add pictures) and comes with a very special tube compliment which was sought out and purchased on the advice of Mr. O'Connel as he felt it was the best tube compliment he'd ever heard in the Minimax:  1952 Raytheon 6X4, a Raytheon 5814A triple mica D getter in the middle with a RCA blackplate D getter 12au7 in the far right.

Included in my asking price is a backup to the Raytheon and RCA tubes as well as a Haltron Blackglass, a Tung Sol, a GEC and I've gotta root through my tube stash for any others hiding.

I'd like to recover $750 shipped for this wonderful pre.

Please keep the PSU upgrades and rare NOS tube compliment in mind if making an offer.  This is not a desperation sale and my only reason for letting it go is my recent purchase of a Shindo Aerieges-L preamp.

I'm no photographer, but here is an attempt to capture it.  It really is mint.

What a tremendously cute piece of gear! Love the look!
Wish I could swing that right now for my work studio system...
Good luck

That's a super price for that Pre. Nice Phono Pre too. Read the reviews.
You don't usually see these go for so low $$.

Good luck Fred!

Den

Thanks Den,  it is indeed a nice preamplifier.  To clear up any confusion, this is JUST the line stage, not the phono pre.  I used to own the phono pre--damn good piece, just as good a value as the linestage.

Fred is right that it is a very good "pre". I had it for a couple of years myself and finally gave into a newer unit  that had a remote.  Still miss it a lot .  :duh:
Probably one of the better pieces that I have owned. Tempting as blueberry pie to me.  :green:

Very nice preamp indeed!

Can you tell us who modified the EE and did the modifier lower the gain factor?

Gopher

Tom Tutay did the modifications and it allowed other tubes like the 12at7 to be used in the middle position--I believe it did lower the gain a bit.  This was an option at purchase from Morningstar Audio, not an individual moder I sought out on my own.

the additional 6x4s include a Haltron Blackglass, a Tung Sol, a GEC and I've gotta root through my tube stash for any others hiding.

This is a very fine preamp in stock form.  With the power supply modifications and tube compliment included, it took a Shindo to convince me to upgrade!
