Correct me if I am wrong, It should not make any difference whether the unit is 240v primary or 120v primary other than perhaps the incoming current & wire size. The Isolated secondary is the same on both Torus units CS20 balanced vs CS20.

Correct.

No I mean that there is a magnetic field between the primary side of the transformer and the secondary - so the primary side has no mechanical connection with the secondary :thumb:

james

You obviously mean electrical connection.... but then any transformer achieves that, including those in the amps.... so from this pov the Torus doesn't do anything extra....

That's what I thought James.

I think I know where you are going with this but :D  I think it does do extra's for a system. I know is that the CS20 makes my system breathe with total ease.............. :D

Well obviously you disagree with what Torus has to offer - so it's not the product for you.

Hello.  I currently have a Torus 10 feeding the Bryston 4bsst2 amplifier and after reading these discussions, was wondering if the Torus 10 is in any way limiting the 4bsst2?

Would there be any improvement in going to the Torus 15?

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Robb

Just take the rm 10 out of service. Or just plug the 4bsst/2 into the wall for awhile. Turn it up a bit. You should be able to tell.

Hi Robb,

The 4B can draw a maximum of 7 amps at full output so you should be OK with the 10 amp unit.

some quick questions.
1.  How do you determine the maximum amount of amps for each component?
2.  How can you tell if you would benefit from the avr model vs the CS model?
3.  Is there a price list available (CDN$)?

There have only been 6 Torus(s) come up for sale in the last at least three years.
I had bought one 20a+10a,a friend bought two-20a,and one 60a just sold on audiogon and there is a
15a 120v for sale on cam.
You see tons of well known conditioners on both sites, yet the Torus is almost non existant(for sale that is).I do know for three of these the sellers went to a bigger Torus as they needed more reserve power as they had went to biggeramps:4's to 7's to 28's.

FYI, I was the lucky recipient of that 6th Torus (RM-15), courtesy of Dr. Bill Gaw via Audiogon auction (yes, he actually parted with one even before he got into the PP2000).

That was the only way my budget would allow me the purchase - thankfully, there's really nothing to wear out in the Torus, so I bought with confidence! I spent months searching Agon daily. After experiencing the effect, it seems clear to me why they don't come up for sale very often.  :thumb:

Thanks, James. for the fast advice. Glad to know that the Torus 10 is not limiting the 4bsst2.

Sorry - just saw this.

1. The amp will have a maximum current rating it can draw - so add them up and the Torus you purchase should have at least 2/3rds that rating
2. Unless you have serious power fluctuations the AVR is eye candy
3. Yes - email me at Bryston - BIT or Torus prices?

James,
AVR - maybe a little more than eye-candy
I think it's interesting at the least to see the impact various musical passages have on your system by being able to monitor the amperage/wattage/voltage draw.
I'm currently using a brand of powerdevice (soon to upgrade to a Torus) that displays in big blue LEDs the voltage and amperage draw. I particularly like pushing my 4BSST2 and "seeing" the results let alone hearing them.
Bryston: what's the saying: Fuel for the senses!  :D

Hi BrystonFan,

Its just that any well designed power supply can operate over a very wide range of votages without affecting performance. :thumb:  At the extreme 'Switching Power' supplies could can less what the voltage in is.
