This pair is actually upgraded in a couple of areas. First, the original internal 200uf cap has been upgraded to an external bank of ClarityCap film/foil caps. Also, a set of Eichmann CablePod binding post have been added so that more common speaker terminations (such as bananas) can be used. These have been wired with 18 Ga silver solid wire.
Physically, these speakers are in good shape, with just a couple of small nicks on the plastic top and bottom caps (as well as the mounting of the external cap bank and speaker posts).
Operationally they are excellent – everything seems to be 100% functional with absolutely no buzzing or other indication of issues whatsoever.
These come with power cables and a manual, plus the original shipping cartons; however, I HAVE A VERY STRONG PREFERENCE NOT TO SHIP THESE.
Price is [GONE] (cash basis, firm). Blue Book value (as of JAN 2011) is significantly higher ($2300-2800, and does not take into account the modifications). Trade value may be based differently depending on the trade.
I also have a couple of different tube amps that seem to match up well with these speakers - a pair of vintage Dynaco Mk III tube monoblock amplifiers (Dynakit, that appear to be from the mid-1970s), and a 1212 Designs OTL-20 output transformerless stereo amplifier (100 w/ch into 8 ohms). These amps are NOT INCLUDED in the above price. I will make one or both of those available to the purchaser of these speakers for an ageed upon upcharge; however, the amps are NOT available separately at this time.
Now that I found the right amp to match up with these I really like them (they are very amp sensitive) - I just have too many speakers at this moment and am looking for something else (for example, a speaker with a smaller footprint, higher efficiency and a higher nominal impedence).

Please note that these speakers (and optional amp) are being sold 'AS IS'; however, I am willing to audition them so that the purchaser can verify functionality prior to purchase. If you choose not to audition, then they will be guaranteed only not to be DOA. If shipped (NOT PREFERRED) and damage occurs during shipping, I will not be responsible in any way for that damage but will help process a claim.
While I would like to get as much cash as possible, I am open to full or partial trade. There is nothing in particular that I need, but I might consider interesting tube and solid state audio equipment, vacuum tubes and testers, SACD/DVD-A discs, a DAC and interesting speakers (higher efficiency and higher nominal impedence). If I need to add value to make a deal work, I have other things I can include (or even a little bit of cash).
Any cash payment can be via money order/cashier’s check/personal check but, except for US Postal Money Orders, all must clear my bank first. I also accept Paypal for convenience (add 3%).
As indicated above, SHIPPING IS NOT PREFERRED but I may consider it. In addition, I have a minivan so I can potentially meet somewhere in the region for a deal (but not for an audition, which is only in my setup).
