Listening session on March 5th, Kentj's place
«

I have wanted to get everyone over to hear my current setups. It appears that March 5th is an open date. Let me know if there are any conflicts that I am not aware of. I thought we could start around 1PM and go until whenever.
The living room system will have (The Clue) loudspeakers from Sjofn Hi Fi. They will be powered by the Arte Forma I-150. It is possible that I may have the new Arte Forma "Susan" amp by then but it is hard to say for sure. The source will be my estate sale Onkyo DSP-10.5 universal player.
The main system will feature a McIntosh MVP-871 universal player. It will be directly connected to the W4S STI-500 and will also run through my Dodd preamp for comparison purposes. The Dodd has a new set of Pavane tubes and a Furutech silver fuse. It is sounding pretty good. The room will feature a pair of Grant Fidelity's image stabilizers. They are an interesting concept.
Please bring discs that you would like to hear. I can play just about anything now. I have bought a couple of HDAD discs from Acoustic Sounds (24/192 transfers). I think it will be interesting to listen to them compared to the original CDs.
My address information is below.
Hope you can stop by. Best, Kent
1047 Terracewood Circle, Ballwin 63011. I am east of 141 near Queeny Park and north of Dutch Mill Drive. Call if you need directions. 636-399-8053

Looks like Jim Pendleton is swinging by and swooping me up for an audio date... I look forward to getting out of the house and hanging out with fellow GAS brothers ...lol

Hey Kent - my wife just reminded me that Saturday is Mardi Gras. Sorry but I won't be able to make it. Apologies. Totally forgot about that this year.

Hey Kent,
Thanks for having us over and you and your wife's hospitality. Your system has reached new sonic heights with the addition of the Mac in your system. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about a midwest audio-fest as well. I think you had a lot of sound ideas.

The McIntosh universal player was pretty darn cool. Now if it only had meters......
Once again a gtg cost me money. I ordered the Jackie Terrasson, Chris Isaak and Louis/Duke cd from Amazon this morning. (HebrewHammer alert; should have the Louis/Duke cd by Thursday/Friday)
Kent, try sitting on the little ottoman stool, closer to the sjofn Clue speakers. It gave me a little taste of the Maggies huge stage. I liked them as "room headphones" when sitting in the near-field. Also, what are the Rotel pieces you're going to sell? I am looking for some equipment for our school's choir program so she can play music in her room.

Kent and Pam, thanks so much for hosting us at your house! I really enjoyed listening to the Wired/Dodd/Mc/Maggies, and the albums you had lined up for listening really enabled the system to display its chops.
Liam has offered his time as a volunteer beta tester anytime you want on the Wii, and I'm glad he didn't plant the controller into the flat screen!
Now we just need to get more folks to augment our traditional stable of open houses, so we hopefully can have one a month, and pick up some momentum(and new members of the posse) heading into next year's main event.

Thanks to everyone who visited yesterday. I hope you found it enjoyable and entertaining. I appreciate all the nice comments I got regarding my system's sound. If you are ever close by you, I am always happy to fire up the system. Talk to everyone soon.

Kent,
Thanks for hosting another event. It was good seeing everybody again. Your system is sounding really nice and as Steve mentioned, the Mac really makes a nice difference. The W4S amp is pretty impressive with the Maggies. Nice, big open sound.
Expanding on what Dave mentioned, it would be really great if a few folks would step up and offer to host a gathering. It doesn't have to be huge. If your place won't handle many people, just post that its first come first served and cap the attendees to how ever many you are comfortable with.
The big thing here is to show we are active and hopefully attract more members. The more members we attract, the more gatherings that will get hosted (hopefully by the newbies). With us seriously considering an AudioFest next year, we are going to need more active members to pull this one off.
As an aside, I'll be hosting gathering sometime in mid-to-late May once I get the basement rebuilt.

Kent,
Listening to your Maggies, with very impressive low end for a single panel, its shows how well you have postitioned them in the room. I know that takes a lot of work since I sold quite a few of the multipanel and single panel units back in the day, and I know how tricky they can be.
A glorious listening experiance. An excellent example balance and a wide open (side to side and front to back) sound stage.
Thank you!

I'll be inviting some small groups over as soon as I get my new ribbons installed in the maggies. Just got a new TNT platter for my VPI table and with the VPI SDS speed control and line conditioner, the vinyl is sounding pretty awesome. Digital isn't far behind with my (relatively) newly modded Museatex Bitstream DAC. The entire system is much quieter and cleaner sounding thanks to all Shunyata power cords and Shunyata Hydra power coniditoner (the first real power conditioner I've had in my system.) I need your feedback. Stay tuned.
