WTB: Usher Be-718 Tiny Dancers
« on: 12 Feb 2011, 07:48 am »
I am moving off to college next year and am in the market for some really nice bookshelf speakers. Among some others, these Ushers have caught my attention. I am interested in buying them, or if anybody has any other monitors that also sound really good, feel free to contact me.

You've got a lot of choices in that category. I heard the Usher Audio Be-718 side by side with the Usher Audio V-601 and MUCH prefered the V-601. I bought the V-601 because it was so much more pleasant to listen to. The 718 was very "bright" in comparison. If I had room at my residence, I would definitely buy the Fritz Speakers Carbon 7. They are some of the best speakers I have ever heard. Altough not very popular at AC you may want to look at what Elemental Designs have to offer. I own some of their subwoofers and have been very happy with their value and performance.

I actually talked to Fritz yesterday for one hour, he seemed like a great guy. He didn't recommend his Carbon 7s as he said he thought my room might be too small, but I've heard fantastic things about them. I'm also looking into Sapphire XLs and his smaller speakers on the used market, they just don't seem to come up very often (and for good reason: nobody wants to sell them). As far as sound goes, I like a bright sound with lots of energy, which was one of the reasons I was attracted to the tiny dancers. And they have gotten some good reviews in other places, and I've heard that with front-porting, wall placement isn't as big of an issue. For subwoofers, I guess I'll take a look at Elemental Designs, I've definitely been attracted to what ACI has to offer on the used market.

CrazyTasty,

So many great choices at the budget range you are considering. Keep an open mind and audition / consider a wide selection.

Good luck with your search and choice.
