Burning music onto DVD with DVD+Audio

The site claims 2 hrs at the highest quality. That's plenty of time, IMOHO. Much longer than two hours is really too long to listen to the same disc. That's not the way I listen to music. I listen like the Bronco's plan their game; the first 20 plays scripted then wing it!

One song will make me think of another, then so on and so forth.

I'm very fortunate that we get beautiful reception of MPR (Minnesota Public Radio)- they're a very good all-classical-all-the-time station with minimal talk and other programming (excepting the wonderful "A Prairie Home Companion").

This dvd+audio format is starting to grow on me. I think you're right, some tracks sound a lot better than others. I seem to remember reading somewhere you shouldn't use remastered source cds. I haven't noticed that tracks from remastered cds sound bad, they are just as good if not better than ones that weren't.

Did you guy the full version? I haven't yet; I just finished my work week tonite (I work Thurs, Fri & Sat every week, 7:00 am til 7:30 pm- that doesn't leave much time for anything those nites...). I'll probably get it ordered tomorrow, just don't feel like going to the trouble tonight.

I've made several discs with the trial version, though, and I think it rocks.

Have you had any problems with ticks between songs? I have, but only when ripping with Nero... Just curious how it's worked for you.

I've been messing around with the trial version. Never had any ticks, only rip with EAC. Had a couple of glitches,but I think that was because of using a dvd-rw over and over. I need to do more listening to make sure this is as good as I think it is. I am seriously considering a dvd player upgrade that would make the most of this format. My current dvd player(panny xp-30) is killer for video, it has a faroudja chip. It does 2 channel fairly well, and does this dvd+ pretty good also,but only has toslink dig out. I have burned only on dvd-rw, checked today and it is a Princo, trying to save on coasters. Tomorrow I will try some TY Fujis made in Japan.

I only buy inkjet printable media. The Prodiscs I've bought are excellent- they are very reliable (in my hardware), plus they feature a full face printable top that takes detail superbly well. I'm always willing to try other discs, but I doubt I'll find anything out there better than Prodisc.

So far, Levi, I'd say "yes" definately worth it. I was too wiped out last nite to do much, but today I plan to buy the full version and get to making some more "DVD-M" discs (I call 'em that for 'DVD-Music').

If I'd have had this a couple months ago, maybe the 'Encyclopedia Metallicus' would have been on a DVD!

God, it was so much work that I'd almost dread it...but at some point I'll probably cave in and do it!

There's about 5 or 6 songs I really hated having to leave off last time.

It would be easier this time- I've got a nicer printer now, and a lot more practice in putting them together. Plus I bought a booklet stapler, cutting mat, T-Square, etc which helps a lot. I think I've got the disc coating scienced out a bit better now; if nothing else, I've learned to let it dry before I mail them!

Yes. "DVD+Audio" is what they call it, but they point out on the website that it shouldn't be confused with DVD-Audio. The discs this program lets you burn are fully DVD Video compliant. They combine the requisite video element while upsampling your .WAV files to 48/96.

Please note that this only creates/authors the file- you need a separate burning program. I use Nero Burning Rom because, well, I already have it. There are plenty of others, including some freeware ones.

Okay- I bought the full version, and it truly kicks ass. Some things don't really sound any different, but most things sound better. Much better. Some stuff sounds "Holy Crap!" better. So far I haven't had any operational issues with the software, either.

That sounds really inviting. What is your workflow? Extract audio to .wav, convert using DVD + Audio, then burn to DVD?

Yeah, pretty much. You can get your WAV. files from wherever, and there may be other extractors that'll work but EAC seems very reliable. You then bring up the DVD+Audio software to compile & upsample, then the file is ready to burn with whatever burning software you use. I use Nero Burning ROM just cause it's what I have on hand.

Disc Welder Bronze is due out next week for $99.
It'll author DVD-A and burn gapless tracks.

This is good news for a guy like me who has a shitload of 24bit / 96khz master recordings.

this will require a DVD-A player, of course.

Do you have a favorite DVD brand? On my Liteon drive I just flatly can't seem to get any discs burned with my newest batch of Prodics to work. Prime [brand name] discs work great. Man, it's really frustrating to run into compatibility issues like that!

I currently use Memorex DVD+R 4x and Ritek media without problems on my Sony +/- DRU 500A. They are $0.99 bulk. I have good success on TDK also. I would probably check Liteon website for new firmware update.

Yeah, I got the March firmware update, but my drive (a '411S) just doesn't seem to like 'em. I may be better off replacing the drive with a Pioneer '07, anyway. Since I only buy printable discs, their's a limited selection to start with, and Pioneer has Cert'd Prodisc A+. Besides, 4X is starting to look pretty slow next to the newer 8X burners. Of course, the minute I get an 8X the Dual Layer Burners will hit the shelves...
