Greetings,
New Here, am exploring an upgrading path, and just recently found out that Odyssey audio can be purchased in India, which is where I am from.

First Question is how would the Odyssey speakers go with a SET amp, in particular a GM 70 built by an experienced DIYer (not me). I presently have the proac tablettes, and contrary to what I found said at audio asylum they DONT  rock with SETs that I have tried, mainly 6c33 based.  The gm 70 I am considering would be a 25 watter.

Second query. Would it make better sense to stay with the speakers (I really like them) and go with an amp like the Khartago and a DIY valve pre which I already have. Am  presently running the speakers with an audio analogue primo VT 100 watter, which is an excellent amp, but these speakers can definitely exploit superior amplification.

I'm thinkin you need power to get the best from the Odyssey's tho you haven't said which model (I am assuming there is more than one).  The Pro Ac's, too, with a valve pre upstream.

As I half suspected. The way to go then would be a better amp. The valve pre with a Khartago.

25 watts just may get you there depending on what you're looking for and the dimensions of your room.

Basic rule of thumb is high-efficiency speakers and SET amp are made for each other.

You should be able to get something like 102-103dB out of the lorelie with a 25 watter. So if extreme volume is important to you lOok elsewhere, but I think this set up would sound very nice within it's range.

Not really true Jim,,, the Lorelei's aren't Salks which love lots of power. As a matter of fact, the Lorelei's aren't any good at handling a whole lotta watts,,, 150 watts at the very most which is what my Butler amps are. I've tried Lonewolf's 250 watt Butlers which easily overpowered the 7" woofers.

I own the Kismet speakers which are a "souped up" pair of Lorelie's.  They seem to be 89-90db efficient.  I doubt your set will  have enough power to drive them properly.  Contrary to what you have been told, these speakers can handle a lot of power.  I have a 150wpc Stratos Extreme powering them, but I also tried my friends 250wpc Krell amp and the speakers played loud without any strain.

If I had a set amp, I would be looking for a 98-102db sensitive speaker like on of the ones from ZU Audio or similar manufacturers.

While I was slightly disappointed that my Lorelei's stumbled from just 100 watts more than what I use from the same amp manufacturer, this while at a NY RAVE gathering with plenty of agreeing listeners, my Lorelei's do benefit greatly from your Diffractionbegone wool pads Jim.

The Lorelei's Scan-Speak 8545 6.5" driver is rated at 100 watts.
 
The Lorelei's Scan-Speak 9700 tweeter is rated at 225 watts.

Wow! Thanks for all those responses.
Since I would like to restrict upgrade to just one component, I could either go for a better speaker (i.e., Lorelei for Tablettes) which is the more expensive option driven by my present integrated amp, or change my amp, the khartago for the AA Cento primo, which would be a more economical option. The pre is built by Lyrita (a one man operation in delhi}and I dont know how it compares with the  Odyssey gear, but since I already have it, me thinks I will try out the latter option. This way I can get the best out of my existing speakers amplification wise. In my 'next birth' then I can perhaps upgrade my speakers

As for SETs, I am personally of the viewthey should have nothing less than 93 db sentivity speakers or higher, and my guess also is that while the Lorelies may work well within a certain range they would not be at their best.   

Have sent price queries to the odyssey dealer (ARN Systems) in Bangalore and a telephone call but no quotes have arrived yet. I only hope the prices are not very much higher than the ones indicated on the net.  If the Khartago is priced right, then certainly I would audition it on my next visit to Bangalore.
