Hi, All
Who can remember what was the first cd that was played in your own first cd player?
Here is mine.
It was 1988 and I just bought my first cd player(PHILIPS) in a compact size top load one and I cannot remember the model at all.
After I left the store I just waked in a music center and bought only one cd which was the be loved.
U.D.O (MEAN MACHINE) the solo of the ACCEPT,s front man which I still love the album.
I like all kinds of good music but my root is METAL for over 30 years. :thumb:

Brothers in Arms was the first cd I ever bought.  I first heard it on a friends cd player in the mid 80's.  That was a moment, compared to the tapes I was used to!

A Sanyo first generation 'toaster' loader. (the disc drawer tilted out from an upright position)
It was retail list thousand dollars (all those first generation ones were) and was almost all discrete parts. no big chips made yet. I remember it was on sale, (I probably paid $600.) so the second generation players were coming out, so it had to be late 1983, maybe early 1984.
I got five free CDs included in the box. What they were i just do not remember. (One was an Art Pepper, on Denon label.)
The Sanyo drawer broke down under warranty, and as soon as it was fixed i sold it. (the buyer used it for ten more years)
My second player was a Sony craptastic-something. It sounded bad and only worked sometimes. it was a POS.. I got rid of it (to a friend for $25. they knew it's flaws and didn't care for $25!) and then had a Philips 880, a very nice player. That was a good player. Then added a Sony 89ES changer, and THAT was also an excellent player i got as a referb.
The Philips died, the Sony 89 wore out. I wore out that Sony playing all day every day for my pets (for MANY years) while i was at work.
Then a Rotel transport and Adcom DAC. to replace the Philips.
When i bought a Sony SCD777ES as a demo, the Rotel transport was sold. It sucked compared to the Sony 777 as transport. The Adcom DAC I still use!
Now I mostly use a Sony SCD333ES (refurb closeout) five disc, and a Sony SCD555ES (bought used) five disc for CD via a Behringer 2496 to the Adcom DAC then through a VAC Standard i use as a tube buffer. (Yeah it is 'rube Goldberg" but cheaper than a Dcs! and sounds OK.) I still own the SCD777ES too. and some other Sony ES9 changers, and a $10 Yamaha changer from Goodwill
Then I got TTs...

The Wild the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle....Springsteen of Course.

The track "New York City Serenade" blew we me away when I heard the piano bench being moved during the recording.

Dark Side of the Moon played on a big heavy Sony in the early 80s.  Probably 83.  The Sony died the first day.  My son who is a recording engineer still uses the JBL Control Monitors I was using at the time.  The Sansui integrated amp died a few years ago.

In an effort to launch the CD players (around 83/84 if I remember correctly) Technics gave away 4 free CDs with the purchase of a player and you had to send away for them. The only one available at the time was this horrific thing....sounded awful. Thought I made a HUGE mistake.

I scoured all of the local record stores desperate to locate something to listen to. I finally found Joe Jackson's Night and Day (the only CD in the shop!). So, the 1st real intro to decent CD sound was JJ N&D.

I'll never forget the startling sound of the drum interlude during "In The Air Tonight".  I had just won my new Sony CD player in a sales contest at work in 1985.  Downstream components were the Pioneer SA-9100 integrated and a pair of Design Acoustics D4's (omnidirectionals) all purchased in 1975.

Still using the old Sony in a basement system with Adcom GFA-555, GFP-565 and a pair of Klipsch KG4's.  Sitting behind my drum kit and in front of the Nordic Track.  Don't need audiophile grade when drumming along to the music or goosing up my pulse to 180 bpm :D.

1986...just moved to New Jersey. Bought a sony cd player and the Momma's and Pappa's great Greatest hits CD. Two son of Ampzilla amps, a Advent model 300 used as a pre amp and a pair of Kilpsch La Scallas. Cranked it up and it sounded so good
