Carmen Recommendation
« on: 4 Feb 2011, 08:09 pm »
I've got two "Highlight" copies of this great Opera.
After having a stirring evening listening to one of them last night, I'd love to complement them with a full 2 or 3 disc set.

Does anyone have any personal experiences and can recommend a recording

Cheers

I've long been a fan of the 1984 Lorin Maazel, Migenes, Domingo version (The one they did as a Movie).... :thumb:

But I don't have it on Vinyl.  :(

DaveyW.
I don't know if this artist has released her version, but I would not be surprised if it was excellent.

Ms. Garanca, though, never seems to be straining; she's uncannily placid. She is currently starring at the Met in the title role of Bizet's Carmen, a revival of the Richard Eyre production she brought to New York last year, and even in a fully staged performance, she is vocally stunning and remarkably affectless.

I also own the Horn/Bernstine Carmen.  IMO the performance and sonics are excellant.  Good pressing.

I like that one.  It's good all around.  Nothing really notable either.  It's a very professional, competent production.

I will put a plug in for this thread where I will be comparing a lot of Carmen recordings.  6 or 7 of them are LP and the other are CD.  There are lots of recordings not only because it's one of the most popular, but also due to the fact that there are scores for both Mezzos and Sopranos.  You see some famous divas in the title role.

I'd definitely 2nd this - if you like this artist & conductor Dlaloum I would fully recommend it.

Hi Woodsyi - I guess I should have posted up this request in the Opera House too?
I know where to go in future.
