- This was British (Musical) Fidelity's signature pre-amp of the late 80's to mid 1990's (vinyl period)... the unit new - cost over $2,500 .
These preamps are highly sought after and supposedly will beat off any modern pre amplifier up to about $2,500.00, still to this day. High quality/hand built inner parts.
In terms of specification the amp runs pure class A, uses an off-board power supply unit for better sound. Has an amazing phono stage (both MM and MC) and was built like a brick outhouse by Musical Fidelity - a statement product...

It uses sophisticated circuitry that gives maximum transference of information from input to output
Its moving coil stage is an ultra-low noice, DC servo feedback loop, high current, wide bandwidth circuit. The moving magner stage is unique in audio, with 100% common mode rejection, wide bandwidth, low distortion and very low noise. Both have an extra pair of input sockets so you can parralel up a resistor or capacitor to match your cartridge precisely.
In high definition systems absolute phase is vital to achieve the best sonic performance. The MVT has two high-current power amp output stage, non-inverted and inverted. You can swap over as necessary, to get the absolute phase of your system right.
Each stage of each channel has a separate, regulated power supply, so inter-channel and inter-stage inter-reaction are minimal.
All components in the MVT are ultra-quality. The polycarbonate capacitors between each stage, and the power supply capacitors, for example are made specific for Musical Fidelity. The MC input capacitor is extra-low ESR grade.
The board is configured for maximum definition. Each stage has its own earth track so that the earth point for each stage is 0 volts, and there is no signal from other inputs on the earth line.
The sound is thoroughly neutral in tonal balance, genuinely transparent, giving a convincing portrayal of space, ambiance and depth.
