We're so F'd it's not funny

I hope you guys have been watching the weather. If not, don't plan on going anywhere for about a week or so.

I was just watching the local news and if they are anywhere close to being correct, we're in for one helluva shitty week.

1+ inch of ice is going to drop Monday and then we get (up to) 12" of snow over the top of that. If you are 50-60 miles north of 44, you could see 24" of snow. Oh, and then throw in high winds to the power lines and tree limbs that are encrusted in ice and we've got the potential to be without power for several days....oh joy. The guy on TV described it as a combination of the '82 blizzard and the '06 ice storm.  :wtf:

I can't wait.

We're already 8-10 inches past our normal seasonal snow fall totals and January isn't over yet. Historically we get 4-5" of snow in February.

I'm so sick of snow and ice I could just flippin' scream  :cuss:

....so Bob (in StL), got your camera set up to take timed shots of the sh*t headed our way?

I'm in the 1" of ice and 12" of snow band.   :o   And if the power goes out, I can't snuggle up to my Yamamoto for warmth.  Did you see that we'll be -8 degrees on Wednesday night.  Damn, I sure hope we don't lose power and all the GAS gang is safe.  Be careful out there boys and girls.

It is good to know where your gas, water, and electric isolations are in case it hits the fan. Know how to winterize the house, and where you can crash if you lose power to your house. It may be a short work week.

That ice load on power lines is the scary part, and knowing it won't be local, but rather a band that will roll across multiple states.

Scott,
I just saw this on the news...  I'm in Ponce Inlet Florida for a week, and it even made the local news.  Everyone be careful and stay safe!!
Hope it clears up for our flight home Saturday.

Up this way, the weatherman just predicted 15 inches minimum. Then he stated it will depend upon the exact track of the Low.

Another channel stated in the area, 8-20 inches. Good luck Linny.

I'm an aviation meteorologist and let me tell you, I wish this winter was over already. Enough is enough. Work hasn't been this busy since that stupid volcano erupted in Iceland

+2!  I so wanna move south.  Preferrably below the 26th parallel.  We've had more snow than normal in my corner of the planet as well.  Hmm..pro'ly should be careful what I wish for.

Well, you could live where it snows all the time in Winter. It's perfectly normal to get a foot or two of snow., on top of ice. Seriously, it is NOT gonna kill you! It is a meduim size inconvenience, and have some fun playing in it! Go make some snowmen!! Take your kids and make a snow fort in the yard. teach them how to have a good time in a snowball fight...

I appreciate your optimism, Elizabeth, but it's not the "inconvenience" that concerns me (and others in STL?). It's the reference to the 2006 ice storm where 500,000 people lost power, followed by the sub-zero temperatures & 30-40 mph winds that are to expected. Add to that the 0.5-1 inch of ice (under the 5-12 inches of snow) that will be on roadways and yea, seriously, it could kill people.

I feel for you guys.  We are only supposed to get the tail end of it with some ice but no followup snow.  I pulled out the hand crank radio and LED lamp last time.  For this round, I also loaded up on white gas just in case I have to cook.  I am ready for winter camping (inside).

I bought a beat-up old snowblower 10 years ago for insurance and had it worked over.  Since then it has just been in the way, but this morning it started just great (once I turned the key to "run"  WHEW!).  It's got chains, and I am stoked to use it.  Just hope the snow is not too heavy.  So far it's 31 degrees and we are getting rain showers.

I hope I get to stay home tomorrow and listen to tunes.  Once I take the wife to work.    :icon_twisted:

We are looking at about 5 inches of snow tomorrow, an inch of ice overnight then another 5-6 inches of snow on Wednesday. They are saying "at least 8-10 inches of snow".
It's 4 degrees here right now. I don't mind the snow but I cannot stand the bitter cold temps. I would rather have 30" of snow at 32 degrees.

I think they overestimated this storm.  Looks like they keep dropping the predictions.  Less than .5in ice, and around 6in snow.  The freezing rain will be mostly sleet now.  But then again, 2 hours from now it could go back to the original forecast.

I wish I could be wrong as often as the weather forecasters, make the money they do, and keep my job.  :duh:
