FirstWatt F3 or F5 for >1200hz?
« on: 30 Jan 2011, 01:52 am »
Guys

I'm reconfiguring my system and want to use a FirstWatt amp on the tweeters which will run from 1200hz on up.  Any thoughts on which FirstWatt amp is better for this frequency range?

Power isn't an issue.  I'm kind of leaning towards the F3 as its supposedly the "tube-like"....but maybe the F5 is more dynamic?

Thanks
Jim

Have not heard the F3, but have heard the F5 and J2.  My money would be on the J2.

I have access to an F3 and F5.

Actually have a 45 tube amp -> F4 but would like to simplify into a one-box solution, so now thinking about the F3 or F5.

Thanks,
Jim

True, I happen to have one for sale, but in my experience the Aleph 30 has the best treble of any of the Pass/First Watts I have tried. Only decided to sell because the bass was overdamped on my speakers.

This from someone who has owned or auditioned Pass built F1, F2J, F3, F4. And a DIY F2 and F5.
