Heard Exclusively On Hard Drive...or not

FWIW I came across this article in Rolling Stone about some of the potential issues related to digital music storage. Could be an interesting read for those who have gone in that direction and to anyone looking forward to eventual remastered editions of music recorded in the "modern era".

Thanks for sharing - doesn't surprise me.  I had some high quality MP3s and when I switched from Zune to an iPod (which I use in the car), I made sure I put them on a new hard drive and kept the old.  I've been fortunate to never had a hard drive crash yet but I am always aware of the problem.  On more important files, I'll stick a copy on a thumb drive.

Too bad this topic wasn't placed in the proper Circle, The Discless Circle , where it might see more eyes than those of just the Bryston crew.   A true limitation of good info of which I've already read and faithfully follow myself with my +15,000 album hard drive library. Everyone out there going down the hard drive storage road needs to know this stuff.

Cheers,
Robin

Robin : I thought about posting this in the Discless Circle but decided to post in the Bryston circle instead to attract members of the community at large to pay us a visit. I have read posts in this circle from non-Bryston owners who feel that this is not the most welcoming community among these Circles and I don't believe that the vast majority of Bryston owners want to be viewed that way ( see " James' Forum Philosophy" ). The only "true limitation" of this good info is caused by people's misconceptions and pre-conceived notions about the "Bryston crew." Had you perhaps spent a little more time delving into the "good info" and a little less time constructing a condescending reply complete with "eye-rolling" and use of colour for emphasis, you might have noticed that some of the info also dealt with issues like disc-rot and the variance in quality and longevity between different brands of CD-R's. These issues would be of interest to members of the community who continue to use more "traditional" sources. Thanks for responding, Robin and feel free to drop in any time - just do us all a favour and check your snark at the door.

Hi

Respectfully, it belongs in HD forum like discless. You are self moderating the post. You can post it in another forum and link to the bryston folks  (because you are right about their friendly nature except Napalm  :icon_lol:). Nonethe less its a good topic and deserves attention but in the right forum.
