I think it will be from scratch because we want to use fully discrete Class A analogue stages like in our BP25 DA preamp.
As an SP1.7 owner I'd like to put in a vote for a DVD player that, at least as an option, is a pure digital transport, with no audio processing or audio DACs at all. The SP1.7 does a very good job of D/A conversion, bass management, channel delays, volume adjustments, etc. and it would be nice to have the option of buying a player with top-notch video performance, plus ultra-low-jitter digital audio output, but not to have to pay anything extra for audio circuitry that simply duplicates what we already own.
Obviously this would present problems for DVD-Audio (unless there's something like a Firewire connection) and even more problems for SACD, but there's nothing available on SACD that I want to listen to anyway.
It'd also be fun to have a really stripped down machine where the only video output was SDI, but that's probably a bit unrealistic.

If we can at least have SDI and HDMI available options, that'll be a good start...
