I've found Utube to be a great resource for music.....it's not just about cute pet tricks. There are tons of not only commercial video releases from big names, but some really great performances from people who fly under the radar. The quality of course, varies from very good, to those taken w/ a cell phone. None of of it is worth saving soundwise (if that's even possible) and playing on a high end rig, but me and my little Cambridge computer speakers have had a lot of fun exploring just a smidge of whats out there.

I think it's a great way to check out new artist, and find some hidden gems from your favorites.

It may not be 'hi-fi', but I think I've had more enjoyment w/ this than listening to my big system lately.

Hey....it's supposed to be about the music....right?  :D

The crazy thing about YouTube is that a huge portion of the content is in violation of their rules.  Can you imagine what it would be like if people actually did NOT post videos which they didn't own the rights to?  It staggers the mind. Especially where discovering new music is concerned.  Not so much the dude getting hit in the nuts crap, but definitely the videos with just a static shot of an album cover and the song audio.

I just found some awesome old Pentangle stuff, which features this great comment which pretty much summarizes the entire YT experience:

"goddamnit, I'm never going to get anything done as long as the internet exists"

Then that led me to Trees and Ygdrassil.  Cool.  YouTube is also hard to stump.  If you can think of some nothing band, chances are somebody has uploaded something for it.

You are right, i've found lots of interesting bands at youtube. Normally i check the videos on my favorite bands...and check the related videos.

Some bands are not well known, but worth checking.

This is just one absolutely beautiful piece of video.

Druck the song is from 1981 by Richard Wahnfried but I recently can't stop playing this on the big Rig. They seemed to have chopped up the soundtrack a bit for this film but this is an eye delight.

Slumberland Episode Two by Richard Wahnfried and the uncut up version of Druck can be found there if interested

I spent over an hour the other night looking for every version of the standard 'Cry Me a River' - very addicting. I have watched hundreds of pre-MTV ""music videos" on YouTube. When you want history as is recorded by film/video, there is so much content on YouTube. Anyone else downloading video from YouTube via Download Helper?

Youtube is a great source and the 720p "hd" stuff even has sound quality equivalent to mp3.
