Biggest Bang for Buck: FST, Auricaps, Silver Wire

A couple of quick question:

Of the 3 upgrades (FST, Auricaps, Silver Wire) I can only afford 2 of them, which 2 will give the most sound quality improvement for a pair of 626's?

Also, I read some where that the perfect height for 626's is to have speaker stands high enough so your ears are aligned w/ the middle of the upper half of the neo-ribbon. Therefore, how high do the VMPS speaker stands place perfect 626 speaker height?

Thanks for your time...

Definitely spring for the FST tweeter and the Auricaps. As a matter of fact silver may or may not be an improvement depending on the overall tonality of your system.

For me in my system when I had the 626rs the midrange ribbon was aligned to my couch which is pretty standard. The stands I used were 24" tall.

Hope this helps.

I think PEZ nailed it, the FST and the Auricaps are at the top of the list if you are going analog XO.

The outboard (OXO) crossover might be next, with SR-71 and Silver wiring coming in next.

The OXO is also significant if you might want to future proof your 626, so that you can go D-OXO (Digital Outboard Cross Over) at some point.

If you are looking at the 626jr, then the first (and best) upgrade is to the megawoofers.

Hope that isn't confusing

Let me know if you have questions regarding any of those and what they do.

Thanks John, Yes your answer makes sense with one exception:
How do the external XO's make the speaker future-proof?
Also,
Where is the optimum ear alignment on the 626's?
How high do the VMPS 626 speaker stands place the optimum ear-to-speaker alignment off the ground?

Thanks so much for your time...

Going with the OXO allows you to later move to the D-OXO in the future, simply by purchasing the D-OXO and plugging it in.

You were correct that the height should be with the ear at the mid/upper portion of the neopanel (not the tweeter) and most find 22" - 24" stands work the best (our pedestals are 24") depending on your seat height and how tall you are.
