ST/coke bootle rectifier in Cornet II
« on: 23 Jan 2011, 06:47 pm »
Anyone using one of these in the Cornet II?  Will it fit okay?  seems like the clearence to the transformer (YMMV) is tight.

 How wide are these things?

Thanks

5V4G is 1 and 13/16 inches in diameter (slightly less than 2 inches) at the widest part.

I been using Mazda, RCA(Radiotron/Cunningham),Crosley, National Union, Tungsol, etc. on my Cornet II for three years(or more!) now, no problems.  All of them ST type.

If the Mullard 5AR4/GZ34 does not fit on the Cornet II rectifier position (the original chassis cut out hole), then what you have is a fat bottle type.  I have the same experienced, but the regular Telefunken, Mullard, and Amperex Bugle Boy GZ34' do fit.

According to the drilling guide the distance between the transformer and the rectifier's hole center is around 0.96" (24.5mm) (the transformer's cover is 0.53" from the holes). If we assume around 1/5" (5mm) clearance between the transformer and the tube we can easily count the max tube bulb:
(0.96 - 0.2)*2= 1.52" (39mm)

thank you amandrae--guess I'll continue the search for a standard size 5AR4.
Thanks for posting that.
