Forgot. I already posted

IPAs can have that effect.

I've had a hundred or more IPA's in various price ranges and strengths, but the one that always blows me away is Elissa by the Saint Arnold Brewery here in Houston. It's slightly malty for an IPA, and at 6.7% it's on the low side of most of the newer IPA's, but it sure packs a punch in the flavor department! The fact that I can buy it within walking distance of my house for $7.99 a six-pack ($6.99 on sale at Kroger) is icing on the cake. Not "the best" I've ever had, but really damn close.

Wow! What a great topic. I live in North SD County so often hang at Pizza Port (great family atmosphere). My own favorite dive is Churchill's in San Marcos. 52 brews on tap including many mentioned here. And when I get too enthusiastic I can walk home.
Second the endorsement of Firestone Walker Double Jack, Mongo, Pliny the Elder and most anything out of Russian River. The harder to find Pliny the Younger and Blind Pig are great subsitutes when the Elder isn't on tap. Probably the most popular IPA in these parts is Sculpin. Partly because it is easier to find than some of the others and partly because it is a great (and consistent) IPA. Never had any of these in a bottle. Always on tap.

A lot of great suggestions... Bells, Dogfish, Green Flash and Stone make some awesome IPAs... One Brewery I haven't seen mentioned is 21st Ammendment Brewery. Last night I had their "Back in Black IPA" which was tastey. Pours like a dark lager, but has a nice hoppy flavor... Not overly bitter... Fairly smooth for an IPA.

Speaking of black IPAs, I am a huge fan of Clown Shoes' Hoppy Feet and Hoppy Feet 1.5. Great black IPAs from the Northeast. Was psyched to see these showing up in Chicago stores.

Bell's Two-Hearted Ale; one of my favorite beers.
Bell's Hopslam when it's available for the short time

Founders is new to my area and the Centenial IPA is quite good but
Double Trouble, double IPA, is just great.

DogFish Head 60 minute is very good, but I was really disappointed in the 90 minute; too sweet; doesn't taste like an IPA to me.

The Founders Double Trouble is excellent!  Thanks for mentioning it.
My Dad sent me 5 of them from MI (a few months ago)...  I wonder what happened to the 6th?  :icon_lol:

The Huma Lupa is also great!

I sure do wish that Pizza Port would open a place in the LA area...   I've been to a couple of them on various trips to SD...  I am definitely a fan.  :thumb:

Love Hoptimum. Glad we got 4packs this year.

Is the 10yr Ruination different or just a different label?

Different.

More hops and and higher alcohol content.

BTW, I don't agree with the review I provided the link to...I think it is quite drinkable.

Have you tried Dogfish Head?  They make a 60, 90, and a 120 minute brew.

Have you tried Dogfish Head?  They make a 60, 90, and a 120 minute brew.

They also make a 75 Minute that is the best of the bunch, IMO. I've only seen it at the Brewpub in Rehoboth DE and one time in a Baltimore beer bar that's one of the O.G. craftbrew places in the area.

If you're ever in the area of Ocean City, MD (little town of Berlin, specificallly) there's a new brewery called Burley Oak. Tried their Hugs & Nugs Imperial IPA. Absoluteley phenomenal. They are not bottling anything for the most part yet, which sucks, but if you're down there it's definitely worth the stop!
