Barley Wine

At 10.5% alcohol by volume, barley wine style ale is in a class
all its own. Intense caramelized flavors create sweetness which is
balanced by huge additions of Galena hops. Cascade aromatic hops are
added at the end of the boil to compliment this full-bodied ale.

If you like barley wines you should really start cellaring.  Its amazing what a few years do for these.  Just grab a extra case and put it away for two or three years.  Mmmmmmmmmmmm

I have spend several thousand hours studying this topic - I might be an expert.

If you like SN BigFoot (which I do very much), you must realize you like a BarleyWine Style Ale

It is a significantly different beast then true Barley Wines. I happen to like it a lot more - very malty, full bodied but still some raw hoppy-ness that keeps it in the world of beer.

Try the DogFishHead barley wine if you want to see what the real stuff is like. Begins to turn the corner into a different territory. Not bad, just different.

I find Old FogHorn (AnchorSteam) another beer like barley wine. I like it - not as much as BigFoot.


Exploring new horizons is great and to think that we can sample the pinnacle of the art for say $10-$20 a sixpack vs the crazy cost owine is great.

Enjory but don't every drink more than 24 oz of true barley wine unless you want a thumper the next day!!!

Anchor Brewing also makes an excellent porter and of course, their Steam is legendary.

Not till April!  I just picked up a sixer of 2011 Bigfoot. Damn tasty. I think I'll get a couple more and try ageing a few to see how it might change. Another seasonal big beer worth trying is Bell's Hopslam double IPA.

I had a 22 of a Barley wine style ale last night. Most if you will not be able to get but people in NY and MA should be able too.  It the Pretty Things "our finest regards". Very tasty. Check it out.

That one is on my list to get. I've have a few brew's from Pretty Things in the past. "Our Finest Regards" is an English Barleywine, so mostly malty, no hops to speak of as an American Barleywine, but still very tasty.
