What do you use for your source?
Yep, that's the Air Tight rep alright. It is what inspired me to buy the ATC-1 preamp. Maybe I expected too much. While it was very good, I did not find it to have that super liquid organic quality and dense musicality. In this regard, I think my JuicyMusic Blueberry Xtreme (which I owned at the same time) did a better job. It was close but overall I'd say I preferred the Blueberry for its wonderful fat tone, harmonic structure, and downright musicality.
...sorry, but not associated with Air Tight in any way...just think it is great gear as is the other stuff that I mentioned...curious, what would lead you to that erroneous conclusion?...Cheersblutto
erroneous conclusion? Thems fightin' words! Its a hobby, what we do and what we enjoy is completely subjective. He actually owned the piece, he didn't just read about it or hear one in passing at a show. The impressions he walked away with are completely valid.
I'm a bit confused by your posts. There wasn't a shoot out at all--I just upgraded my Eastern Electric Minimax to a Shindo. I am expecting to get an Eastern Electric Avant in my own rig to demo in the near future, but that hasn't happened yet.Sunnydaze brought up an experience he had with another brand preamplifier because it was in the spirit of my post--audio legends living up to expectations. In his system, he compared HIS Air Tight it to another nice preamp he owned and, though he does mentioned the Air Tight was very good, he preferred his other pre. The 'fighting words' bit comes in, because its pretty crappy to call someones opinions wrong just because yours differ. I've flat out hated some critically acclaimed gear and vice versa. It doesn't make their opinions or mine less valid. It makes us individuals--which is precisely who we seek in our communication on forums like this.
it does completely. I understand now.
To answer your original question.... Yes, Shindo lives up to the legend, and can even go beyond what you are experiencing. However, it may not be just as simple as adding a preamp to reach total ecstasy. With every addition of a Shindo component, regardless of its level of significance or insignificance, I have noticed a noteworthy improvement in sound. Many years ago, I began with a preamp and amp from Shindo. From their implementation, I embarked on a type of sound I was drawn to. The more I listened, the more I had to have. Yes; it's like a drug! The good news is, it's legal and it has a similar positive effect. For those of you on the audiophile journey to happiness, I understand your frustrations. It's hard to be sincerely fulfilled with your system. I'm here to tell you that Shindo can be a vehicle to take you there. The only draw back is that once you've discovered it, you may need more of it to make you content. Systems containing Shindo components that typically fail are the ones that don't have the synergy to fully communicate their potential. I struggled with this for awhile before settling on a total Shindo system. The only component I continued to struggle with was a digital source. After years of searching, I finally found one that both compliments and synergizes with Shindo. I'm all done now; and I routinely sit back in my chair and smile and sway as I am emotionally moved by the music presented so eloquently and life like before me. It was worth the wait and the learning curve.I'm not a dealer or in any way associated with Shindo. I'm just an end user writing this to save you some of the many frustrations I suffered prior to reaching the goal we all together have - musical bliss. Good luck on your audio journey. And if you can get where you want to go by some other means, then more power to you. I hope each of you get your system exactly where you want it to be. As we all know, it's no easy task.
