I find the delay between tracks on live albums annoying. Is there a way to eliminate the delay? I am using pure music controlling iTunes via iPad if that helps. Thank you in advance.

Pure Music can playback gapless albums if:
 
1.  Memory Play in Pure Music is enabled
 
2.  Gapless Playback in Pure Music is enabled
 
3.  The tracks have gapless file tags
 
What I don't know is if editing songs in iTunes and checking "Part of a gapless album" writes that info to the file's metadata, or if a third-party piece of tagging software is required.

I have gapless playback checked, but I don't know how to tag the files as gapless...please help.

As I said, I don't know if iTunes stores gapless info as tags within the file or just within the iTunes database.  You can see if tagging them in iTunes works by selecting all of the files within an album, edit the files (Get Info) and on the Options tab check "Gapless album".
 
Let us know if it works.  If not, then I suspect the files will have to be edited with a third-part metadata file tagger.

It's simply a case of checking them gapless in iTunes (get info/options) and then making sure memory and gapless are checked in PM.  PM will then pull the whole album (or gapless playlist) into memory, which may take a few seconds.

Ted is correct. To be a touch more specific, in iTunes:

• Click on the album to bring up all the tracks in the album.
• Click on the first track to highlight it.
• Secondary tap the track and select "Get Info".
• Click on the "Options" tab.
• Check (click on) the "Part of a gapless album" box.
• Click "Next" to move to the next track and repeat the previous step. If you are on the last track/finished tagging tracks as gapless, click OK.

iTunes lets you make the same modification to multiple selected files so it's not necessary to click Next and check the box for each track.
 
You can modify all tracks with one step by highlighting all of the tracks on the album, selecting Get Info, then checking the box.

Steve, yes, do an album at a time, not a song at a time (unless you don't want the whole album gapless, I guess).
