Hi Ted

Just wanted to say thanks for the high res demo at CES.

Also the Strange Fruit cut by Cassandra Wilson is a real winner.

My pleasure, James.  Yes, Cassandra is great.  That album, New Moon Daughter, is probably my favorite Cassandra album, and a real sonic gem too (even though it's simple 16/44).  The other Cassandra cuts are from her collaboration disc with jazz pianist Jacky Terrasson, called Rendezvous....also excellent and a sonic demo disc.

Your Bryston gear sounded great, especially in the Magnepan room at the Flamingo.  And the BDP-1 worked nicely too, as advertised.  :thumb:

Do you mean how did I rip it?  I use either EAC or DB Power Amp (I think EAC cuz I switched to DB Poweramp only about a year ago).

How were Cassandra's albums recorded?  Analog tape, I think...she uses Craig Street a lot as producer/engineer, and I think he uses analog tape.  Guessing though....clearly on Rendezvous (Bob Belden production) you can hear some tape hiss.

If you're interested there's some background about the Wilson/Street collaboration at http://mixonline.com/recording/projects/audio_cassandra_wilson/ and, although rather old now (the interview is from '99, so well before he got his Grammy in '02), an insight into Street's approach to engineering is also available at http://mixonline.com/mag/audio_craig_street_studio/

I fully agree, started listening to her about 15 or so years ago.  :thumb:
