Effects of low voltage (110V or so)?
« on: 9 Jan 2011, 12:58 am »
Wow. I just measured my incoming voltage into my power conditioner and it is pretty steady at 110V, with dips as low as 104.

So naturally this made me very very curious about the effects of such low voltage on audio equipment.

What problems will such low voltage cause?

110v is not an issue. When it dips down to 104 certain things can get hot trying to keep the circuits running properly. Transformers don't like it. Some tubes will drop in output but not much.

Most solid state equipment is very well voltage regulated and most of the time you won't notice a difference at all. Don't worry until it drops into the double digits. Dirty voltage is another story.......
