HiFi Fo Fum

Most of us over the years have bought something from HiFi Fo Fum . Sadly on Saturday Ron the owner of Fum passed away. At this time it is not known what will happen with the store but from what I can gather it is not open at the moment. I'll post as I hear more.

I'm thinking the system he's listening to now sounds golden.

Rest in Peace Sir.

Sad news indeed. Back in the day I spend plenty of time down there drooling all over their gear.

I still own a mac 1700 hybrid receiver, which has been listened to regularly for four decades, I bought at one of their mac clinics.   I was 19, maybe 1969, and I think it cost me about a month of income back then, about $250.

I remember those early commercials.
My brother bought a 'beginner system' when he attended Univ. of Illinois--
Peoria (medical), and I think it was a Technics turntable, Sony Receiver, and baby Marantz bookshelf speakers.  He loved it!
RIP to a man who had a store for all levels of audio enjoyment.

Unless somebody steps up to the plate, it looks like Hi-Fi-Fo-Fum is gone for good.  Judging by this article

http://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/news/2011/01/06/hi-fi-fo-fum-closes-after-owner-dies.html

I would guess that if it does come back, somebody will have purchased only the name, as the business appears to have negative equity.

Pacific Stereo, CMC, HiFi-Fo Fum, and Flip's. I remember them well. I spent most of my money back in the 70's at Flip's. I don't think I ever bought anything from Pacific or Fum.

Very sad news though.  :|

Very sad news.  Any news on a liquidation or going out of business sale?

I haven't heard about any kind of sale. If I hear of anything I'll post it.

I live right by the one on Big Bend and drive by daily.  If I see a sign for a sale I will post.  So far it has looked completely closed with no activity.

If you know the whereabouts of Paul Doneff or Steve Spurgeon, and if they still do installation, let them know that I could use their services. Have them call me at 314-965-2475

Now that Hi-Fi Fo-Fum is gone, could anyone recommend the next best place in the Saint Louis area?
