Mac Memory 204-pin SODIMM DDR3

Has anyone experimented with Apple memory.  Crucial seems to be the most reliable for Apple computers.  I am experimenting on their 204-pin SODIMM DDR3 unbuffered chips for the Macbook Pro.  There were two choices one has a CAS latency of 9 and the other has CL=7.

Never Apple, always Crucial.

What's to experiment with, don't you plug it in and it works?

I've had great luck with Crucial and OWC.

I heard reviews on Corsair chips.  They are fast but some reported not being reliable.  Lots of choices but Crucial it is.  I noticed that the price went down quite a bit.  Apple resells chips and truly expensive.

Just ordered 8Gb kit from Crucial.  Apple is charging $600+ for the same thing.

Thanks guys for the input  :thumb:

Levi,

I bought 2 4GB 204-pin SODIMM DDR3 modules for my new MacMini from Crucial.
They shipped right away and are working perfectly. The price was an added bonus!
No complaints here.  :thumb:

I got 4 gigs of Kennsington and it worked great w/ my MBP prior to me selling it.

Third party memory surely works.  Sorry Apple, you are just too expensive.

From my DIY days, I've learned to make sure to buy memory from companies that have a lifetime warranty.   Also when selecting the memory you need to understand the CAS spec for the frequency your Mac is tuned to otherwise you could be wasting money or worse yet actually buying slower memory.

Also in the end there's only a handful of memory chip makers and companies OWC, Corsair and Kingston all buy from all of those vendors.  The key differences between the memories are how they grade each chip for speed and latency.    Very much like what is done in the CPU and GPU markets.

It looks like my new memory upgrade is 2-3days back order.

I would check http://www.macsales.com/ then.  I've used both with no issues.  OWC usually has better pricing too.   :thumb:
I am currently using 8GB of OWC in my Mini.

Thanks for the recommendation.  OWC has similar low price and specs, the only difference I see are the stickers.   Crucial already took my money out from my bank.  As long as I don't use Safari on my MBP, memory consumption is manageable.  I check Activity Monitor once in awhile.

Crucial just sent me a confirmation that my 8Gb kit is ready to ship.  Now that is just great!

I just installed my Crucial 8Gb memory kit.  Needless to say my MBP boots quicker and has lots of headroom.

It looks like my MBP is a memory hog?!?

Anyone needs a 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory?

Thanks everyone for recommending Crucial brand memory. Bought/Installed mine about a week ago based on the discussion here and have had zero problems.

If the individual applications aren't using too much memory, you're OK.  I wouldn't worry about the system in general using lots of memory.  Most Unix systems will use what would otherwise be free memory for disk cache.  If your system starts needing some of that memory back, the disk cache will shrink accordingly.
