The MPC/Mini+ power cable...

We have a new power cable for the 2010 Mac Mini. It is a 1.5 meter 2 conductor cable with teflon insulated 14 ga OFHC 6 nines copper in a helical braid around a natural fiber core. The outstanding flexibility of the MPC/Mini has been retained. The electrical connectors are Furutech gold plated units: a FI-11M(G) Edison connector and a much modified FI-8N(G) IEC C7 connector for the Mini or anything else that uses a C7. As you can see in the picture the IEC connector on the finished cable is much smaller than the unmodified version shown on the right of the picture. This modified connector allows easy access to the Ethernet connector located next to the power inlet and the power switch on the back of the 2010 MM.

Compared to the standard MPC/Mini cable the MPC/Mini+ (Plus) has better detail retrieval with a very smooth presentation - just what one would expect from high quality gold plated connectors. Soundstage is BWD. The biggest difference is the incredibly fast rise time (transient response) of this cable without any truncation of reverb tails or low level detail. In other words, the excellent MPC/Mini power cable has given rise to an even better sibling at a modest increase in price.
Edit: One of my customers emailed me and told me to mention the SLAM!! the cable has.

Methinks that is the whole rise time thing.

I got to A/B the MPC/Mini and the MPC/Mini Plus in my system.

The MPC/Mini is an excellent cable. It does a terrific job helping the MacMini sound richer, more detailed, and more analog. It blows the stock cord away easily.

The Plus version of the MPC/Mini takes it to another level. Things are smoother yet better defined yet again. The attack/slam is improved. This is a terrific PC for the Mac Mini.

Just when you think things can't get any better, Dave walks in with another goodie from his bag.

Well I would imagine it would be an improvement over the VH Flavor 1 PC w/IEC adapter that I'm presently using but I couldn't say for sure til I tried it,,, just like anything else. Just never know til you've done that, like I did with the RCA Ground Enhancer. I found no noticable difference in the picture with one on my DVR's composite video yet when I placed it on my Sony XBR CRT's composite video, there was a definite HD gain to be seen. Just never know about these things til you've tried them out.

Thanks, Lee. They make great stuff... if large. I like that product line better than anything else out there. I never could figure out the big deal about Oyaide, especially after I took one of their receptacle using only my fingers to do so.

YMMV, of course.

You know guys, if I had not tried a lot of things that I didn't " think" would work, I never would have learned as much as I have about what actually does or does not work.

It took a long time for me to lose the mindset that the science was the defining parameter in audio design. If I hear or see someone pontificate about wire is just wire and can be quantified by L/C/R without ever doing the empirical/experiential work to determine whether those statements are valid, I think I'm gonna puke.

You know me. I'm the everything effects everything guy. It needs to be a beneficial effect in performance versus the negative effect on my wallet for something to be worth it. I'm with you on that. I'm not a HT guy either. I've always regarded HT as a great way to spend 20K to watch movies I wouldn't spend $10.00 to go see at the theater. The media room remodel will have a very minimal system - mostly for the grandkids... and Gayle.

It is definitely worth it on the Mini IF the rest of the system is up to the task.

Well Jason, I have in the past spent $300 twice for an ISF Calibration, done 2 years apart on my Sony so I guess you could say I take my TV viewing about as serious as I do my audio. When my Sony was brand new, the 1st thing I did was install an IEC terminal on it so I could replace that toaster cord and yes, there was a sustantial improvement. So I would say spending $400 for a DirecTv power cord makes as much sense to me as spending whatever amount of $$$$$ you spent on your MuthaBuss was to you,, or whatever money that you've spent on anything you've ever bought. But I won't be wasting your time asking ~~is it worth it.~~

Let's face it Jason, you could be asking that same question numerous times each day on each product that comes down the pike. It's a question that gets both really old to hear and to have to answer,,, at least to me anyways.

I'm going to stay tuned in hopes of acquiring a trade-in MPC/Mini.

Too many expenses after the holidays.
