Transporter won't connect after power outage
« on: 31 Dec 2010, 04:07 am »
Our power went out briefly and now my transporter won't connect to our network. Other pc's and laptops have no problem..but my transporter and my duet won't connect. Any ideas?

It can see the network...I enter the network key...it just won't connect.

This really gives me incentive to get connected thru an ethernet cable....wireless network connection is a real pitfall of the transporter.

Happened to me once also with my Duet, power went out for like a second and boom, I ended up having to factory reset mine, I don't have a remote so its a real pita.

Wired is always more trouble-free and glitch-free.  But I am curious as to whether your Transporter and Duet are configured with static IP addresses or receive their addresses from DHCP.

Wireless users of those devices seem to have better connectivity with static IP addresses.

Hmmm?...not sure it has been over a year since I set these up....guess I am going to relearn all about it. My first order of business is to figure out if they are using static IP.

And yes the factory reset of the duet....it is a real process since I am using a Readynas.

I use DUET with ipeng on an ipod touch, no remote, I have to do the configuration in the "perl" OS....its very greek to me and everytime I see the Blue light on the DUET and it doesn't change, I curse....LOL> I use mine wired just because I think its a safer bet to keep me from having to curse perl and redo the programming. Its really not as hard as I make it out to be its just a pita. Let know if I can help!!!!

Ok I checked and Transporter is using automatic not static IP's...where would I find the static ip address?

Apparently the Static IP option only shows up if the DHCP server is disabled.

I don't want to send you down the road of disabling your entire network (!), and another option (if your wireless router supports it) is to reserve an IP address based on the device's hardware MAC address, so that it gets assigned the same IP address each time.

My experience is with general networking and not the specific Logitech/Slim devices, so maybe someone who actually has them on their network and is using one of these methods could answer?

The static ip thing and networking stuff is not my bag at all so I'm of no help there. Maybe check the forums, slimdevices I think it is...

If you start your slimserver and open the panel on your pc go to  the info tab where it has the IP address info

Unless you are paying extra for it, you probably do not have a static IP address so that means it's dynamic (DHCP) so it changes (sometimes as often as daily but that's up to your ISP).

Do the complete unplug everything and plug everything back in and then power up routine.  Go through network set up again.  Have it select IP address automatically and don't specify it.  It will ask for your network password.  At that point, it should log you back into your wireless network. Also, you may need to do a power cycle on your dsl modem and your wireless router as well.

If that doesn't fix it, try logitech support.  As recently as three months ago, they had specialists available that dealt with the transporter so hopefully still do.

Having said all that, I use ethernet and like it a lot better.

We're not talking about the WAN IP address from the ISP provider, but the IP addresses for computers and devices on the local LAN.

Thanks did this about 7-8 times and it finally connected to the Transporter after doing a factory reset..whew!!

Now I have to get my Duet going...not as crucial as I just use it for background music through out the house at partys.

Next comes wired via ethernet cable.

+1 wired....wireless is convenient when it works and real inconvenient when it doesn't!!!!  :thumb:
