What I know about headphone amps is about zilch but I do know what I want to get and it's this:

I would like to use it with a Sherwood S3000-III tube FM tuner and then alternate it with a Jolida JD-100 cd player every so often. 
Can I just run the tuner directly into this amp and away I go or will I need a preamp as well?

Very cool!! Looks like you'd just plug whatever source your using into the RCA's on the back and off you go. Thats assuming the big knob on the front is volume, they look very cool...enjoy!!

Great choice  I'm sure you'll love it. As previously said, no preamp is needed.

Since you are new to them, I should advise you not to get the Sophia 274B. It is a great tube detail wise, but is not very musical, is a bit dry, and has harsh treble. A better alternative is the Emission Labs 274B or 5U4G. They are a bit more expensive but worth it. You can email WA and ask for one, or go through a 3rd party site. If a expensive modern tube isn't in your budget, a Tung Sol 5U4G is just about the best NOS tube and only run $20-$40 on eBay. If you have any other questions that need answering, just ask

You get the WA6 yet? Yes you can run sources directly into it.  I ran my CD directly into mine for a good while. Then I wanted be able to listen to vinyl and CD so I just run it out of my preamp now. It's a great little amp.

Sweet! Does it have the pseudo-dual power supply and the upgraded caps and all? If not, you can get those mods from Woo for a reasonable cost and it will sound even better.

Guys...if your budget dictates a cheaper unit like mine did....this amp I got used is being upgraded to MKII and coming in March, not sure of price yet but original was like $200 new.
 MP-301 ,Musical Paradise--6 watts of awesome tube goodness and they are tweakable, like easy peasy tweakable.

I saw this amp and sent these guys an email and told me the new one will take into consideration all the negative things from the first design. I am interested in this amp.

I have a set of AKG 702's and also was looking at the SCHIIT Lyr coming out in March, its a 6 watt Class A - AB amp that looks good as well.

What phones are u using?

Sorrry didnt mean to hijack this thread, if I win the lottery I would get a Woo 6SE for $1100 but thats not in my budget but the Woo stuff sure is pretty!

Alex-- I'm using some Grado SR60's that I am modding and eventually putting Cocobolo shells on. Over at DIY forum in the tubes section there is a bunch of folks that mod these amps and the guy that designed them helps. He told us that the new version is due out in March, I have no idea how much. I have already done "the snip" mod and others have done even more, the parts that are used in this amp I am told are far from cheap. They are not the high end parts but they are not the low either.
 I'm totally shocked that this unit performs on the level that it does...I just wanted a nice little headphone amp and got that PLUS a unit that was capable of easily driving decently efficient speakers- mine are 92 db.
 Oh and did I mention...sounds incredible, and I'm listening with stock tubes!!!

$250....thats something anybody could wrap there arms around, get into tubes and get a super nice little amp...shoot I'd pay $250 for this one right now after hearing it...LOL.

No shocks for me yet...but that will happen, or a soldering iron accident.

You might get tired of plugging and unplugging you CD player and tuner.  It might be convenient to have a line router from Mapletree Audio:

It showed up today and with the big Tung Sol and some RCAs in it and with a Sherwood S3000-III tuner hooked up with some Beyerdynamics DT880s all I can say is WOW!

Due to the downstairs neighbour in my new flat in London moaning about my hi-fi system, two days after moving in, i now have to move into the world of headphone hi-fi! 

So after doing a little bit of research, ive pulled the trigger on a Woo Audio WA6 (in black) and a pair of AKG K701s. 

Was looking the Grado GS1000 and the Stax Omegas, but thought i would start here and potentially work my way up.

My hi-fi system is pretty high end, so the headphone system will have its work cut out impressing me!  Should be interesting!   

My DAC has a set of spare XLR outputs, seeing as these units are built to order, i wonder if Woo would terminate mine with XLRs?

If you decide to try Grado's get the entry level ones and save your money, they are easy to open up and mod so they sound several price points higher than all their brothers. I've modded three so far and SR60- 2 and SR125's and we got them sounding almost as good as the top of the line Grado's with very little expense. And its fun as all get out...

If those are new 701s, prepare yourself for a lengthy break in period.  They're just horrible right off the bat.
