Christmas music not to buy
« on: 24 Dec 2010, 03:28 am »
I have been purchasing Christmas music for my wife for a while now.  By far the worst, and I mean basically unlistenable, Christmas music is this:

"This Christmas", by Aretha Frankin.  She screams way too much.  I had to remove this from our playlist, because my wife couldn't handle it.

On the other hand, The Chieftains, "The Bells of Dublin", and -- strangely enough, since I'm not a fan at all -- "The Jethro Tull Christmas Album" are both quite good.  As is this:

I dare you to try the Squirrel Nut Zipper Christmas cd. My wife picks out one each year and lets me get one every so often. Bet ya can't guess which of us got this gem. The band is local out of Chapel Hill, NC.
On the other hand if you can get your hands on it, Tony Williamson's Christmas at Doobie Shea is one worth seeking out.

I vote for Barbara Streisand...unless you desire to hear Jingle Bells sung as fast as possible, with no regard for the origin of the jingle bells rhythm (sleigh horses trotting), or you want to hear O Come All Ye Faithful bellowed as loud as possible...
