I am the second owner of this unit. This pre is legendary for its synergy with Grado headphones and its performance as a tubed pre-amp, it's pretty much the best match there is for the HP-2. It has received the full MAR reference upgrade treatment with some additional enhancements all performed professionally by Benny of Amina Audio/Modular Electronics in Georgia. The Melos pho-tentometer has been removed and the volume control has been upgraded along with larger caps and upgraded signal wire. It has also recently been serviced to replace old capacitors and is sounding better than ever.
From what I gather from the PO and Benny, this particular unit sounds better than most other
Melos units but I have no frame of reference myself.
As you can tell its condition is meticulous and I am hoping it will go to a good owner. The volume control is mechanical and controlled by the remote, the balance guage illuminates yellow and looks very classy; everything operates and functions smoothly and perfectly. I've yet to see a Sha gold in this condition for sale, the face is pristine and is not golding or browning. It still has the original box, manual, and parts that have been removed. I've also acquired a plethora of tubes to go along with it:
