TRON Legacy
« on: 22 Dec 2010, 03:43 am »
Took my 8 year old to see this tonight in 2D.  Visually stunning and a really great soundtrack as well.  Story was a bit thin at times and not the most engaging characters, but overall I didn't feel like I had wasted my money in seeing it.  My 8 year old left the theater saying, "That was a long long movie dad, but it's the coolest movie I've ever seen."

Anyone else seen it yet?

I'm looking forward to catching Tron and True Grit, which opens tomorrow.  That would be a great double feature! :thumb:

Well I went and saw TRON Legacy 3D today at IMAX and I came away less than satisfied but not really disappointed either. The soundtrack by Daft Punk was topnotch as was the special effects. But the storyline was shallow and didn't do a very good job of explaining the situation at hand, which was really true at the end. I might not have felt so bad had I not been primed since last summer to see this movie due to month after month of promos. In the end, it just didn't live up to it's buildup.

2.75 out of 5 stars (3/5 if not for the 6 month hype)

Cheers,
Robin

I saw it in 3D but not Imax.  I knew this movie is designed to sell toys and fastfood chatzkies, so it would be hard to dissapoint me with a thin plot.  Well, I do have high expectations regarding the special effects.  True to form, the plot isn't much to speak of but amazing graphics.  Certainly not as grand as Avatar but right up there in terms of recycled themes and effects driven plot.  I'd give it 3.5 out of 5.

I saw the original when it came out, and own the DVD.
The original had a 'thin' plot that never meant much. (See "Reboot" TV series if you can, for a nice plot and interesting characters/storyline for an animation inside a computer! Reboot is out of print and $$$$ at Amazon.. I own two DVDs from the series found locally dirt cheap!) (PS Amazon shows the complete "reboot" series to be reissued 4 DVD for $28. out in early 2011.  BUY IT!!! it is a really great series if you like animation.  Really not just kid shlock.)
In the original TRON the characters are two dimensional (on purpose?) The plot in the original was very thin: Get from point a to point b and save the Universe... the part about getting into the computer just minimal.
The 'special effect' were the main reason for the movie. At the time of the original, they were at the forefront of special effects. Though now, the remake effects may be interesting and sort of cool, but we a far more used to being wowed by special effects.
I found the original to be interesting IF I accepted it's clear limitations. Another movie with interesting computer/human stuff was Lawnmower Man. That at least had a plot and characters!
Then we have the red pill/blue pill movie... Matrix. The best 'in a computer' movie of all. Then those near computer 'in your mind' stuff like Inception.

I just remember the original being ground-breaking. It was a long time ago! Actually (now that I look it up) it wasn't (quite) as long ago as I thought.

I saw the original in the movie theatre when it was released. I thought it was very cool and liked the storyline. After seeing it recently, yes everything seems dated but I still like the movie.
Look forward to seeing the new one, but will not put such high expectations.

There is not much to get excited about, after seeing the neon glow costumes.

This topic is as old as I am but I just can't believe people didn't like this movie, OK not everybody likes everything but "sucked"??  I did not see it in the theater and my latest doctors orders are to "sit the f__k down" so I found the BluRay/DVD  and popped in the Blu-ray, it only took about five minutes before I said my first "..now thats cool!!" when those flying H things came and grabbed him off the street when he first "got in".

The sound track is my kind of Electronic Music in fact I bought the sound track after seeing the movie..The story was much better than I thought it would be in fact the whole movie was, "Qora" is a great character and the actress pull it off very well!!...its one of my top five "gotta see the Blu-ray" movies now....the special effects these days are just incredible, over the past 15, even the past 5 years its amazing!!! Good stuff!!!

Saw it last night on ppv.  I liked it well enough, but probably not enough to buy the bluray, maybe when it's in the bargain bin.

Quorra and Gem were %$#%$#@ hot! :inlove:   I guess I'm a juvenile sucker, because that alone is enough to get me to watch

I never saw the original Tron movie, but I do like the genre.  As such, I liked the movie even though it appears to have suffered severely from massive editing.  There is little in character development and some characters never get off the ground.

I never would have seen this film if it wasn't for my friends telling me it's one to purchase for the sound effects only.  If your setup is up to it, Tron Legacy will exercise it to its limits.  On blu-ray, even my surround speakers sound impressive.  I never realized the kind of output they were capable of.  The bass effects are way over done, but a tremendous amount of fun.  Overall, this is a great demo blu-ray if you want to impress your friends with the capability of your HT setup.  A must own in my book!  :D

Still enjoy listening to the soundtrack to this film.  Daft Punk really did a good job with it IMHO.

Well, maybe I'll need to pick up the BR then.   8)
