I'm a "contributor" and can only get to Film and Video.  Somethin's rotten in Denmark, alright.

I was on there this morning searching through 4 different pages.  After a while the search engine didn't work, then the page wouldn't load at all. :?:

I hope they get back on line soon.  I just completed a bottlehead foreplay pre amp.  Just did the voltage check.  The voltages are all a little over double what was in the manual!  My ohm figures didn't match the manual either but I found out through the web site that my figures were correct and that my manual was a misprint.  Hope the same is true with the voltage figures!

I have also been unable to get on to AA all day Sunday, and I am also missing my fix (including the latest installment in the 3950 saga; heck, I might even have to go downstairs and listen to the damn thing instead of just reading about it!

I expect Rod M will have tale of woe for us tomorrow.

No...it HAS been down somewhat this weekend.  There are many posts about missing it; what to do while it's down, etc.  However, I was saying that it's been up for some time now; doesn't seem to be yo-yoing at all, which was the inference from earlier posts.

Wierd, though.  There are AA posts that seem to infer that now that it's up, some browsers may have problems until all the DNS cache is reclaimed?  Don't know what that means really.

DNS stands for Domain Name Server (or Domain Name Service) and is the mechanisim which resolves the servers numeric IP address to a human readable name such as audiocircle.com or audioasylum.com. Rod (or someone) let their domain registration expire. As a result DNS inquiries started failing.

DNS names are cached and stored in your ISP's DNS servers to reduce the number of requests to the registrar and to the domain's DNS servers. DNS entries usually have a TTL (Time To Live) of 24 hours. This means that the ISP's DNS servers will only contact the master DNS once every 24 hours. However, this time can be overridden by the ISP and some ISP's set the TTL for up to 7 days. Once AA's domain registration expired the pointer to their DNS servers is removed or shown as inactive. Depending on how long it had been since the ISP's server had queried the master, it could have been anywhere up to 24 hours before it became unreachable.

Once the record had been updated to show the domain as active, it can take up to 24 hours for the new record to propogate. If you are running Win2K or WinXP you can open a command prompt and type IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS to clear your local cache. If your machine stays on all the time it too will cache DNS entries. This may help if AA changed any of their DNS entries as it will cause your system to send a fresh query to the ISP.
