I know where you're coming from, Laundrew.  Like a famous author who's name escapes my memory said: 'Everyone knows the price of everything, yet few know the value of anything.'  Can't remember the exact words, but that's pretty close.

Reminds me of a conversation I had among a few friends/acquaintances...

A guy who's a high ranking engineer for Otis elevators was talking about his new bachelor-esque pad.  His work required him to stay a 4 hour flight away from his family Mon-Fri for a year, so they leased him a penthouse apartment and paid for him to fly home for the weekend every week.

So he went crazy with a TV, surround sound, computer stuff, etc for the apartment so he wasn't spending time out at the bar.  Another guy at the conversation asked me about my stereo.  They had blank stares when I mentioned the brands/models, as expected.

They guy who I just told you about's jaw dropped the furthest when I told them my Rega Apollo CD player cost $1k.  "$1k for a CD player?  I wouldn't even spend that much on a DVD player!"  It was respectfully stated.  My reply - "I wouldn't spend $1k on a DVD player either!"  It must be said that the guy spent about $3k on a Bose system.

One of these days he'll come over to my place and see what he could have got for around the same price.  Everyone knows the price of everything...

This was also familiar to me, but unfortunately I could not place it. A quick call to Mrs. Laundrew for assistance also did not shine any light on this quote. We just keep saying to each other; “I know this quote.”

Admitting defeat, I reluctantly Googled it  :(

Thank you Laundrew.  I hadn't seen the second quote, and it's a great one.  If you like quotes, here's a couple for you to Google.  I'm paraphrasing, and can't remember the authors.  I read them somewhere titled "The more things change."  It was a bunch of ancient quotes...

What's wrong with today's youth?  Girls act and dress like boys, boys act like girls.  The youth have no respect for for their elders and view their wisdom and knowledge as dumb.

My Maggies needed a mate . Met a Bryston 4B and were engaged. Put in some Tara cabling and a marriage for 10 years. After 10 years the Maggies met an AR DR 250 Mk2 Servo. They dated and the Bryston left in a hurry. Then some time later the Maggies were calling out for the Bryston. The AR all flash and those big tubes courted the Maggies. In the end the Bryston Maggie combo lasted a very long time in our home.

So you're saying that it's not always about flashiness and a big tube?  :D

The first time I heard of Bryston I was looking at surround sound amps to build a home theater. It was at "Magic Forest". A very good old style stereo shop that is now gone. :(
I was looking over the Yamaha receivers while listening to a Bryston/Mirage  M-1 combination. I was amazed. It was impressive to say the least.
After a while I asked to hear the Yamaha's. I left very disapointed.
A few weeks later I went back and started looking at the Bryston 2B-LP amp. But I bought the Yamaha because I wanted a home theater instead.
I was young and foolish then. HA HA But I bought a pair of Mirage speakers and tried eveything I could to achieve a decent stereo sound.
The memory of the Bryston sound never left me. It haunted me through the years!
Eventually I sold everything and bought a Bryston 3B-ST and a .5B pre-amp. Later sold it and now I have a BP-25.

Like other "first times" you never forget your first true high quality audio sound.

I was looking at upgrading my Harman-Kardon preamp-hk730/amp-hk770 combination. At the time living in Calgary I tried few power amps including Denon etc... I went to Loyalty Sound and was able to try a Bryston 0.5 preamp and a 4B NRB combination. I never looked back after that. :D

In early 2006 I purchased my first set of high end speakers (VMPS RM40s), a local VMPS dealer / owner (who is no longer in business) used Bryston electronics for his HT setup.  Shortly, thereafter I purchased a Bryston 4B SST amp.  Since then there have been several purchases / upgrades.

My dad was always into HiFi and as a kid he used to pore over the catalogs his uncle would bring over from America. While riding his motor bike he got hit by another driver. Long and short of it - he ended up with a nice insurance cheque. I was a boy at the time and he'd take me to all the HiFi shops and we'd demo all kinds of equipment; from the insanely loud Polk SRTs to the KEF Reference 3s. This lasted months. Using that insurance cheque he bought the setup he'd always dreamed of.

Fast forward many years and as a young man I decided to build my own setup. I knew exactly what I wanted: That KEF References I'd heard so many years ago. After months of trawling used ads I finally found a pair of KEF Reference 4-2s in Rosewood. I bought them.

Hooked up to my AV receiver they sounded good, but not great. After posting on a few forums I received a bunch of recommendations. They mentioned a company I'd never heard of: Bryston.

Apparently what my KEF speakers were missing was a pair of Bryston 7B monoblocks. Another year  of trawling used ads I got a great deal on four 7B ST monoblocks :)

Let me just say that I am that bit closer to listening nirvana! (you never reach it ;) Next stop a Bryston SP2 or maybe an SP3... ;)

I won a Bryston 2B in an ebay auction for just over $150.00.  It replaced a Yamaha RX-V1300 HTR, I was astonished that a 50 wpc amp stomped the Yamaha receiver so badly.  I ended up pairing the Bryston with a PS Audio 4.5 preamp, then replaced the Bryston and PS Audio preamp with Krell integrateds (many), I now own all Bryston again and could not be happier!

Bryston equipment is incredible!

I first heard Bryston when I was in high school and Bryston was new; the world was still flat   I grew up in Rexdale where Bryston also grew up.

I think the audio store was on Avenue Road, I and some buddies went there to hear the latest stuff.  The folks at the store were blown away with Bryston.  They had a set up to patch various amps in and out and we took advantage.

At the time Ampzilla was getting all the press.  The store started with something (can’t remember) went to Ampzilla (better) then Bryston (holy s&*t Batman) and I was sold.

And after that, as I was doing sound for bands, I recall the jolt I got from a poorly grounded circuit.

Just took till now that I could afford Bryston (and used at that) but I love it.

well i first heard about bryston in the early 80's. can't remember if it was in some lifestyle magazine or from a co-worker. anyway he said he went to high school with one of the owners of bryston. i bought a 3-b amp and 1-b preamp. had the amp for a few months then it started to blow right channel fuses.took it back to ring audio and they could'nt fix it. so i phoned the factory in rexdale they said bring it up and had it repaired in no time. never had anymore problems with it in the 14 years i owned. now i'm back and very happy with my 4b-sst2,bp=26/mc,bcd-1 and bda-1 all new in 2010.next is some new speakers then i'll be looking at a bdp-1
