I've got an original Monster HTPS 7000 power conditioner that is ~5-6 years old.  It offers balanced power, separate filtering for analog/digital and video sources and has ~5 outlets.  It really has worked well and suits my needs.

I was considering replacing it with something a little newer (not new) and wanted to ask for recommendations.  I was considering the bigger brother, the Monster AVS 2000 which also includes power regeneration to stablize power supply at 120v. 

Is Monster still considered a good recommendation for Power Conditioners?  Any PS Audio, or others, that really are great products for the money?

I need something that offers a minimum of 3 outlets (6 devices) and can handle a large plasma, sat. receiver, PS3, ht processor and 7-channel amp.  Budget range $500 to $700 (preowned).

Although multiple x's your stated budget, PS Audio just dropped the PPP price from $2999 to $1495. (disregard the $1995 price on the website)

Any experience with either the PS Audio PowerPlay 8000 (msrp $999) or  AV-5000 (msrp$799) ?  I just spotted a review of the AV 5000 at 10Audio and it got a perfect 10 score.  Hmmm...

Hey!

    Kenreau, the Monster AVS2000 is not a power regeneration unit like PS Audio PP. The AVS 2000 is basically a giant motorized variac to control the voltage. I don't know how smooth it is when it move from tap to tap adjusting the voltage.

     I own one of the early PS Audio P600 since 2002. It is different than the new PP one, basically the P600 is a 600 watts SS amp. Yes, it does a pretty good job in my system. Since my system is small and don't pull much wattage I power the whole system with it.

     The new PP is over your budget. And I don't know any other that would do power regeneration around you budget. But if you are going to try PS Audio PP than make sure you can return it for... it is not for everyone.

Paul has a tendency to build some great Power Products and that is why I picked up the line, and because I am a dealer, I probably shouldn't comment beyond saying the customers I have who purchased the 8000 and 5000 are very happy.

Maybe the PPP special will free up some of the lower models from those who upgrade.

You got that right Buddy, I wouldn't touch a PS Audio power regeneration product with a 10' pole myself but that's just me.    I'm a balanced power fan myself and along with that I can highly recommend the large parallel filter UberBuss from PI Audio. I use the Uberbuss/BPT BP-2.5 combo in my A/V system but if you like your voltage regulating, Zybar uses a UberBuss/Furman IT Ref.-20i (balanced power plus voltage regulator) that he seems to like a lot. Just adding some different thoughts in the mix here.

  Depends. For movies the Monster is just fine. If your system is used for 2 channel as well ,then consider a Uberbuss or similiar unit. I have found using a isolation transformer in front of the Monster was quite affective. If you can locate a Tice Enhancer used it is IMO the best addition to any theater system. Picture quality is stunning. Just keep it simple .

Though I am usually skeptical about "these things" (power conditioners, cables et al ), I replaced a Monster power Conditioner with a PS Audio Quintet and THOUGHT I notice a difference in the sound -for the positive- for sure. it seemed to stabilize the power amps without dampening their power, which the Monster obviously did.. mind you it DIDN'T do power REGEN., but neither does the PS... just my 2cents..
