With the prices of lenses today, you should be able to use them wide open.

Of course, anyone can use any lens wide open. It's when you really look at detail (the more you blow it up, the more it becomes noticeable) on the edge of the frame, you'll see more distortions. I'm not quite sure how the actual glass lenses are manufactured but the edges are harder to manufacture accurately than middle part.

I haven't been following the latest manufacturing processes but I imagine with computers and laser cutters, today's lenses are much better than they used to be.

I have an AF Nikor 85 1.8 that I might trade toward a good tube preamp with phono and remote.    I have my eye on a Rogue Perseus or 99, maybe?
I also have a MF 135 2.0 Nikor, and a bunch of MF lenses.

Anybody?

Do you happen to have an AI-S 28/2.8? (The one that focuses to 0.2m)

Might.  I am cleaning the basement this weekend, and as soon as I run across the MF lenses I'll let you know.  I also have a 300mm 4.5 AI, might be an AI-S.

Cool. Would love to take it if so  :thumb:

I'm good with telephotos, have a 300/4 AF-S - love it

No-one has taken me up on my offer to help them out with getting rid of their 24/1.4... what's up with that

Can't help you with that, but I have a Sigma 30mm/1.4 K-mount I'd like to part with. :thumb:

The reason I'm interested in the AI-s 28/2.8 is because it gets to 1:4 magnification all by itself. Not 1:1 of course but I'd love to try some macro-ish stuff with a wide angle.
