X-statics with the Virture 901 amp

Danny, I am intrested in Seth's personal 901/Piano set up that is on Audiogon and am wondering if the set-up would be a good match to my beloved x-statics. they are stock, no ninja upgrades so far. At 90.5 db seems like the 901 should drive them just fine???

I have a Sensation M451 and it drives my GR Research OB-5's (91.5 dB sensitivity) just fine.  As you're probably aware, the X-statik was based on the OB-5.

Yeah, those will actually match very well. Plus, both the Sensation and X-Statiks can be upgraded to new levels as you decided to take your system up in performance.

I am also an X-Statik Owner, could you explain more on these possible upgardes?

Thank you

You can start with Sonicap and Mills resistor upgrades right on the stock circuit board. That will really bring the resolution and detail levels up to another level.

You can also rebuild the whole crossover, inductors and all, wiring it all point to point with new wire.

Then to go over the top you can start by-pass some of the Sonicaps with Sonicap Platinum's.

All that stuff and you can be several levels up from the stock version.

For a crossover in general is there a big difference in going point to point versus using a PCB?

Some, but it is very subtle.
